"How could you let this happen?" I stressed, standing up as anxiety filled inside me.

"It's out of our control," Nana replied, a look of regret spread across her face.

"I don't understand. Can't he find someone else?" I asked.

"That's not how it works. Alpha's can only be of the same bloodline," Mason shot in.

"Well, I'm sure not every Alpha's wife was able to conceive," I countered.

"They are called Luna's and it's never happened before. The moon goddess makes it so it never happens, at least not to an Alpha line," He explained.

"That's ridiculous," I mumbled. AJ had yet to say anything. He sat rather still on the couch, staring at nothing.

"What if we killed him," Scar suddenly suggested. My eyes spread wide at her ridiculous declaration.

"Please tell me that was a joke. Are you out of your mind?" I gasped in shock.

"Okay, fine let him take your last living sibling," Scar snapped back.

"There has to be another way," I muttered, pacing back and forth.

"Unless Austin magically rose from the dead, then there's nothing you can do," Scar told me, causing me to stop still. This couldn't be happening. Hadn't they taken enough? First both of my parents, then Austin, and now my last nuclear family.

"Lucy, we've tried to negotiate but he isn't going to change his mind," Nana informed me.

"You've talked to him? You know him?" I asked her.

"Only once," She whispered.

"Can we reach him again?" I pressed in hope. She only shook her head, looking down slowly. My eyes flickered to grandfather whose gaze had been locked on me ever since I stood up.

"So we just sit by and watch them take him away?" I asked quietly. Silence filled the room as no one said anything for a moment.

"How bad could it be?" AJ suddenly questioned, meeting my eyes. I turned to look at Mason, questioning and pleading for him to answer him, because he knew more than anyone about this situation. But instead of replying like I badly wanted him to, he stood up and came over to me. Wrapping his arms around me, I expected the sense of calamity that came over me but I knew it was wrong. I knew I shouldn't have been feeling anything calm at the moment.

"When is he coming?" I asked finally.

"Only after his 17th birthday," Nana answered me.

"So, I have about a day or two, give or take with my brother before he leaves forever," I stated more than asked. Again, no one said a thing. The silence was deafening, the tension was suffocating, I needed to get out. Pushing away from Mason, I walked towards the front door. I had barely gotten into my car before Scar came running out.

"Lucy," She called me, opening the door before I had a chance to lock it.

"I want to be alone," I told her, tapping my foot against the brake pedal.

"Let me come," She pleaded with me, "Or at least let Mason come."

"For what? There's nothing you can do to change how I'm feeling right now," I replied. I could feel her gaze on me but I refused to face her. I felt her step back but instead of closing the door, Mason slid into the passenger seat.

"What did I just say?" I groaned, touching the steering wheel with my forehead.

"You won't even know I'm here," he told me.
