"Are you going to eat, or would you prefer to stare at me all day?" Mason asked me softly.
I had been staring at him for about two minutes, but not the "oh you're so beautiful, I want to jump you" stare. I was more like taking him in, trying to figure out who this man was beside me. I thought about it and I realized that I didn't really know him. I knew the basics but what about the other more important things. I had so many questions. How old was he? When and where was he born? Has he lived here all his life? What about his parents? Does he have any more siblings? How did he get the house? Why do people seem to worship the ground he walks on? My mind was racing with these thoughts and although I wanted to ask him all of it, I knew he'd be reserved about doing so. Maybe that's why I was so keen on Collin. I barely knew Mason but Collin definitely did, which is what caused me to have doubt.
"Lucy," Mason called me again. I snapped back to reality, sucking in a breath as I met his smoldering gaze.
"Yeah?" I answered slightly dazed.
"Are you going to eat?" He asked me.
"Oh yeah, yeah," I mumbled as I stood up.
"Do you want me to get you something?" He asked, wrapping his hand around my significantly smaller one.
I shook my head, blinking a few times. Scar caught my gaze as she frowned in question. I ignored her and left the table. As I walked to the door that led to the inside shop my name was called. I turned around but neither Scar nor Mason or even Kristi was paying attention to me. My name was called again and I heard it was coming from the table that had a couple football players sitting and goofing around. Who were they and how did they know me?
"Ey, Lucy," Called a buff could be linebacker with spiky blonde hair and a smirk plastered on his tan face. I frowned slightly but proceeded in their direction.
"Hey guys," I greeted them. A couple of them greeted me back with wandering eyes and mischievous smiles. Maybe I should have kept walking.
"How are youu?" The linebacker type asked me, dragging out the "you".
"Fine," I replied shortly.
"Fine, girl, fine indeed," a random guy muttered, causing most of the table to laugh. What were they playing at?
"We heard you and your pretty blonde friend over there are damned good at having a good time," A dark hair boy told me.
"Okay," I said. Your point?
"What I mean is, we heard you know exactly how to make a guy feel real special," He added, moving his eyebrows up and down suggestively.
"Excuse me?" I asked, realizing what he was implying.
"It's just, your blondie has quiet the reputation, given personal testimonials," Spiky explained. My face scrunched up in disgust. What the hell were they talking about?
"Are you guys trying to be funny?" I asked dryly.
"Problem?" Mason appearing beside me caused me to jump and my heart to skip a beat.
"Mason, buddy, we were just having a little chit-chat with your girl," Spiky exclaimed, laughing nervously.
"How about you and I have a little chit-chat of our own?" Mason threatened, stepping forward. Looks like that's our queue.
"I'm in the mood for pizza," I announced, jumping in front of Mason before he advanced more.
His eyes flickered to mine and I could tell he immediately began to reign in his anger. I wasted no time grabbing his arm and pulling him behind me. Unfortunately, Spiky had an extra comment before we left. I didn't hear exactly what he said but Mason sure did; and whatever it was had him reeling back. I turned around just as Mason's fist collided with Spiky's face. Shocked beyond belief, I opened my mouth to call Mason off when something warm and wet splattered on me and in my mouth.
