"I'm still not sure about you being a werewolf and all," I confessed against his shoulder.
"I wouldn't expect any less," Mason replied.
"Yeah, it's just..." I paused, thinking of a good word.
"Weird," Mason offered.
"Different," I countered, deciding that we had been hugging long enough. Pulling away from him, I walked over to his bed and sat down. His eyes watched me carefully as if I'd bolt at any moment. Not that I blamed him. A part of me was considering that option.
"How did you become... one," I asked curiously.
"I was born," Mason answered, his eyes darkening slowly. I was more aware of his differences now. His hair grew faster, especially after not shaving for a day or two. He was stronger, faster, and hotter than a normal human male.
"So is Lindsey...?" I didn't finish the question though I knew he knew what I was asking.
"Yes," He nodded.
"And Collin?" I blurted out. Mason nodded slowly.
"And Laura?" I couldn't help my high pitch squeak at the end.
"Lucy, I'm going to tell you something but promise me you won't freak out?" Mason exclaimed, walking over and kneeling in front of me.
"I can't promise that," I replied, narrowing my eyes in both suspicion and fear. Mason sighed loudly, contemplating in his head. I held my breath in anticipation.
"This whole town is made up of a wolf pack" Mason announced.
"Pack?" I squeaked loudly, my eyes widening in shock. "I've been walking around with a bunch of werewolves. I'm dating a werewolf. I'm friends with werewolves. All of which could potentially snap my neck," I spoke to myself, trying to process the information as best as I possibly could.
"We would never hurt you," Mason quickly defended. I blinked a few times thinking of all the times I probably should have feared for my life. How could I possibly live my life here now, knowing this?
"Please don't let it change your feelings towards anyone. We're all normal. We just transform into wolves... sometimes," Mason pressed.
"So you can change anytime you want?" I whispered still in a state of shock.
"Yeah," He answered, nodding slowing.
"You're the Alpha, the head of this... pack," I announced, remembering something Collin said about his "Alpha duties".
"What changed your mind?" Mason asked, suddenly changing the subject. I looked around the room, trying to find a good answer to his question. Truth was, I didn't even know. I could ask myself that question, what am I doing here? But I'm afraid of the answer.
"Scar told me about her soul mate/werewolf boyfriend, or whatever he is, Carter," I replied, staring at Mason now.
"I know Carter," Mason told me.
"You're the Alpha," I repeated.
"How do you- Collin?" Mason asked, his frown deepening as realization hit. I nodded in agreement. Most of everything I knew was by Collin's doing.
"Yeah, I'm the head of this small pack," Mason confessed.
"I'm just curious how I, human, ended up in a town full or wolves. Are there any other humans around?" I asked, frowning as I thought about it more.
"That's a good question. This place is really hard to stumble into. It's not even on the map. You have to know where to look," Mason explained.
"My grandma owns the house we live in. She grew up here," I mumbled. Mason looked into my eyes but he didn't say anything. I'm glad because I really didn't want to think about how she crossed this place. I've already got too much information to store in my small head.
