Chapter Two
Their First Meeting
The sun was setting outside and to Evelyn it was a lovely day to take photographs. It was her dream to become a professional photographer. She loved taking photographs; her camera had belonged to her late mother and it was a somehow a connection that she cherished. She liked to record nature in all its glory – landscapes, birds, trees and flowers. Some of her photos were taken in the winter when the countryside looked bare and had a sense of desolation and solitude. It was a hobby and an escape or distraction which allowed her to momentarily forget her abusive father. She still loved him even though he was an ogre.
Pulling on her coat she left the house and made her way up into Sherath Forest. She wore nothing special just a plain red long-sleeved dress, a pair of tights and blue pumps. Her digital black camera was hanging around her neck. She had light blue eyes, was tallish and fair-skinned. The camera was the only thing she had of her mother's. She continued to walk up the path that led towards the forest and was soon there. Evelyn reached the black iron gates that were at the entrance of the forest and made sure to close them after her. She didn't want to be careless.
Heading further into the forest Evelyn glanced up at the narrow strip of turquoise sky, hearing small birds chirping as they flew overhead. She looked into the lens of her camera and took a photograph of the birds. She loved hearing them sing and recognised their different calls; the sound of the birds had a calming effect. The sunset was divine and Evelyn continued to wander through various parts of the forest, not caring what time it was. She was totally absorbed and continued to find subjects to photograph. The birds were chirping away happily, honey bees were buzzing around the flowers at the sides of the path, and the wind was blowing ever so slightly through the trees. Taking a deep breath because of her excitement, Evelyn approached a small clearing by a lake that sparkled and glittered in the last rays of the setting sun. The lake was surrounded by large cataracts. With its heathers, snowdrops, daffodils and wild roses it was truly a beautiful sight.
Evelyn took a photograph of the lake. She kept a tight hold of her precious camera and walked around the lake. She was fully focused on everything around her, looking for good photos to take until she saw what resembled red paint. She knelt down to the floor... but it wasn't paint. She recoiled in horror. She said out loud, 'that's blood and it's fresh! Has an animal been attacked or is someone hunting? With a dry lump in her throat and feeling terrified, but also wanting to make sure she would give help if it was needed, she followed the trail of blood and froze at the sight of two lifeless bodies lying at the foot of one of the trees. She let out a blood curling scream and wondered immediately what she should do. She covered her mouth with one of her hands, looked quickly around in case there was someone and started to run away. She had to get away.
Leon was sitting near the lake in a peaceful area. He had just finished killing another one of his victims. He enjoyed killing and had spent most of the afternoon drawing blood from the lifeless cold bodies that were left to rot next to one of the trees. Drawing the blood made the bodies appear even more gruesome to those who would happen on them.
Just as he was washing the blood off of his hands everything seemed fine until all of a sudden he heard a loud scream. He moved quickly over towards the area where he had left the cold lifeless bodies and caught sight of a beautiful young woman attempting to get away from the scene.
"What are you doing here?", he growled out.
He looked at the woman coldly and mused as to why she might be here.
Evelyn stood there shocked, wondering how she could respond to his words. She was shaking like a leaf. She couldn't believe what was lying on the grass.
