Chapter Four

She is my next victim

Evelyn made her way towards the reception.

"Excuse me, I was wondering if there are any rooms available?" She felt very shy in what was for her a very unusual situation and did her best not to stutter as she waited for the receptionist to make eye contact with her.

It had been a busy day for Deanna who had recently started her new job as the new receptionist at the inn that had started business a few months ago. People had been coming in and out of the inn all day. She was quite pretty; she was twenty two years old with blonde long hair that she often wore up in a ponytail or in a large bun. She wore nothing special - just a professional black blazer, a white blouse with pearl buttons on the front, a black skirt and a pair of black pumps. She had lovely pale blue eyes and attractive fair skin. She could be described as flirty, lively, friendly and bubbly. It was as if she had two personalities since at times she would be loud and flirty, and other times she would be quiet and shy. At work she was professional and friendly towards people in the inn.

She heaved a sigh; it really had been a long day for her. Today she had her hair up in a tight bun. She sat at one of the desks working on her computer before noticing a girl speaking to her. She stopped what she was doing and looked up.

Her eyes widened at the sight of the girl; she was soaking wet! How long had she been outside for? It made her wonder what had been going on because the girl also looked frozen.

"Hello, welcome to Lockhart Ferry inn. How may I help you?" she asked politely.

"I was just wondering if you had any rooms available." Evelyn forced out.

Deanna noticed how badly the girl was shaking and realising that something must have happened she took hold of her hands gently.

"Madam is everything okay?" she questioned her.

"Yes, everything is fine thank you. Do you have any rooms available?" Evelyn smiled faintly towards the kind lady.

"I'll just check for you now madam'," she replied.

She checked the list of bookings and they all seemed full but then she noticed one room that was available.

"We have a room that has a view of the village," she responded pleasantly.

"That sounds perfect to me." Evelyn smiled.

"Okay, could I have some details?" Deanna stated opening up a new form on the computer.

"Okay may I have your first name and surname please," Deanna requested politely.

Evelyn thought for a minute. Should she really tell the girl her real surname? She was anxious about this since she knew that it would be bad for her to give this kind lady a false surname. But then again by tomorrow her father could be searching the entire village for her. She shuddered at the very thought of her father doing that but she couldn't possibly lie to the receptionist about her name.

"Evelyn, Evelyn Monroe," she replied quickly.

Deanna typed in her name, her age, but when it came to her home address Evelyn ended up pausing. She couldn't possibly give out her home address. What if they sent things out to her home and her father found them? She sighed deciding to give the receptionist her old home address.

"Forty nine Kindergarden's Lady Fair Road," she stated.

"Your postcode?" Deanna asked.

"BT29 5RQ", Evelyn replied. She flew through the other questions and told the receptionist that she would be staying for the week.
