Chapter Eighteen
Choices
The leaves moved drastically as nightfall arrived, and with its presence it brought not only the sound of thunder and lightning but the sound of a wolf howling loudly. Evelyn woke up from her deep slumber and rushed towards the window and being as foolish as she was, she was about to rush towards the door before Leon wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her against him.
"Stay here do not move from this bedroom do you understand?" he instructed.
"Yes." she responded in a shaky voice.
She watched as Leon left the bedroom, a part of her wanted to go with him since she didn't like being on her own but then again she knew better than to disobey him since she knew that he had quite a temper on him but then he also had a gentle side to him.
Her hands and legs wouldn't stop shaking and she couldn't put her finger on it. Sometimes they would shake when she would be nervous, other times they shook unexpectedly.
As she stayed where she was like Leon had told her to. She wondered if everything would be okay since she kept getting a bad feeling about Leon going outside and she didn't know why.
Leon walked out seeing Johnny standing next to one of the trees not too far away from the cottage. "What is it?" Leon asked.
"It's coming." Johnny replied.
"What is?" Leon asked another question.
"A werewolf." Johnny answered bluntly.
"Is it one of our own?" Leon pressed.
"I doubt that very much. By the scent, it is different, dangerous and unpleasant. It is not one of our own." Johnny started to get worried.
Leon and Johnny continued to stand in silence before Azu and Delilah arrived at their sides. Their expressions were full of worry and Azu started to pant, as if he had been running for a very long time.
"What's wrong?" Leon found himself asking.
While Azu gazed at Leon with worry, Delilah lifted her gaze from Leon and Johnny to something or to someone else. Leon followed her gaze and noticed that she was glaring daggers at Evelyn who had now come out of the cottage and was standing on the front porch.
"She's the reason why we are now all in danger!" Delilah shouted.
"Delilah keep your voice down." Johnny retorted trying to listen to the sound of what was to come.
Delilah was about to say something back when Leon gave her a murderous look that warned her to keep quiet.
When she kept quiet, Leon looked back once more at Evelyn before running up towards her and wrapping his arms around her protectively. Holding her close and holding her hands in his tightly. He knew something was coming and it wasn't pleasant.
"Stay quiet." he whispered.
Evelyn looked up at him and nodded cuddling into him as if her life depended on it. Silence, silence, there was nothing but silence for a few moments, her heart was beating like mad, as if it was about to come out of her chest and leave her body for good and she couldn't help but wonder if everyone else's hearts were pounding like her heart was.
She glanced at Leon again, his face serious with concentration, he was patient with whatever it was that was coming she couldn't understand how they could all just remain silent, she didn't know how long she would have to endure the silence that she found uncomfortable. The only sound she could hear was her heart beating along with the leaves that were shifting from one place to another. However, somewhere along the way, the wind was howling but what was strange was the fact that she thought someone was calling her name through the wind. It sounded almost like an alluring hypnotising voice.
