Chapter Seven

The Truth

Last night had been one hell of a night for Evelyn. Really she had been so naïve, so careless in thinking that Leon would've wanted to see her again. She should've known better than to go into the village in the middle of the night just to see if she could see him.

She had hoped it would've been a wonderful meeting, she had hoped that he would've been flirtatious and sweet towards her. How wrong she had been.

"Do I look like I give a damn if you've been having nightmares or not?" she mused over his words in her mind. Why had those words affected her so much? Was it because she had been abused for most of her life? Was it because she thought that he was different from other men? Or was it because she had hoped that not all men would have been the same as her father? She didn't know. Had his kindness been all an act? She wondered as she sat on her bed. She couldn't be bothered going out today. She didn't even have an appetite for eating anything right now. Why should she eat anything anyway?

She couldn't comprehend what had made her come out so late last night into the village; she had even received a surprised look from a girl that had been working at the reception and it wasn't Deanna. But then again she had been meaning to thank him for saving her life and for providing her with some clothes that she could wear. After all despite his behaviour towards her last night she was actually glad that she had thanked him and had been given the chance to do so.

However something had really puzzled her when she had been speaking with Leon last night. When he had mentioned that his master would kill her did he actually mean that? Did he mean that his master would kill her as in tell her off? Or did he actually mean as in he would murder her if he had seen her? He couldn't have meant as in 'kill' surely. His master didn't know her nor did he know her name, so why would Leon say such a thing? Was it just to get her to leave? Or was it just meant to scare her off?

She couldn't quite decide on the matter. She had just managed to get out of bed and go to the bathroom and her thoughts were still on Leon. It was as if she couldn't shift her thoughts over to something else, as if they had to stay on him. She turned on the cold water tap and splashed her face with it to cool down. Not being able to find an answer to these questions she decided to try and stop mulling them over. After she had left the bathroom she rubbed her eyes only to notice now that the clothes that she had left last night at the edge of her bed had now been moved. Had somebody been in here? Had somebody taken them? Worry started to gnaw at her; she quickly moved towards the wardrobe and opened the door only to be relieved by the fact that the clothes had been hung up on coat hangers.

Had Leon been here last night she wondered. He couldn't have been since she had seen him in the village working away at whatever he had been making. And she was pretty sure that no cleaners had been in here because normally when they come, they knock on the door first.

It was strange though, when she had been sleeping she thought that somebody was with her, as if she wasn't alone. Maybe it was just her imagination. She quickly lifted one of the dresses out of the wardrobe and got dressed hoping that nobody would disturb her for the rest of the day.

Evening had arrived; the hours had gone by really quickly in Leon's opinion. But then again like his master said, when you're not looking at the clock and if you're doing something useful then the hours do tend to go by pretty quickly.

This was the night when Leon would visit Evelyn and tell her the truth. He never really cared about killing people but for some reason he felt as if he couldn't kill her, as if it would be wrong to end her life but then again killing innocent people is always wrong.
