Chapter Twenty

The Confrontation

The fire spread through the village rapidly, she had never seen anything like it before. She coughed as she ran, there were people running for their lives. She wondered what had caused the fire but at the same time wanted to get out of the village safely. She continued to search desperately for an escape but could find none until she saw some people getting on to a van with a man that was presumably the driver since he was telling people to stay on the back of the van and to stop panicking assuring them that everything was under control.

She ran towards him trying to grab on to his coat hoping it would get his attention.

"Please sir let me ride with you." she begged.

"Sorry miss, my van is full and I'm getting out of here now." he hurried towards the driver's door.

"Please sir, please. I do not know hardly anybody here and I have no way of getting out of this village unless I get safe passage with you. I beg you please let me ride with you." she begged once more. The driver looked at her with an unreadable expression, his dark brown hair sat at his shoulders, his eyes dark brown. "I'm sorry miss but I can't take you. I already have enough passengers as it is." And with that he got into his car and started the car. Evelyn watched as he had driven at a fast speed.

Here she was stuck in a village with nowhere to go. Did she really deserve this? Had this been her purpose to perish in a village that was on fire? No-one to come to her aid and help her. She fell to her knees and started to weep not caring if anyone saw her like this. Everything was a mess. If she was to die here then so be it. Not even Leon was going to come and save her now.

In the middle of her weeping through the smoke she thought she could see three figures, one looked like a woman, and the other two looked like two men. One of the men was stumbling and looked un-conscious and the other one looked weary. They looked as if they were searching for something or someone and for a moment she wanted to help them but just as she was about to make up her mind a familiar voice shouted at her making her shiver with fear.

"Well deserves you right for being miserable you little runt." she looked up to see her father sneering at her.

She stood up slowly and tried to hide her fear.

"You don't look so great yourself." she tried to raise her voice but it came out like a mere whisper.

"What was that?" he grabbed her by the throat.

Without repeating her words she spat at him making him loosen his grip for a few seconds, she tried to run away but as always he managed to push her roughly down to the ground.

"Now I will see you die like a dog on the street." he chortled cruelly.

So this was how it was going to end she was going to die by her father's hands. In her mind he should have been the one on his knees about to beg for clemency not her but then again she had no saying in this, she never had any say in anything that he said or did and she never would. Her mother was wrong her father didn't love her and he never would. She closed her eyes trying to imagine herself somewhere far away from her father hoping that her death would come quickly and not slowly.

Liam smirked devilishly looking at his daughter, she disgusted him looking exactly like her mother but she had been responsible for her mother's death in his mind she had driven him to killing his wife and she had probably been responsible for making Elisabeth leave him. He loathed his daughter and he would until his final breath. The smoke was getting worse, he began to cough before retrieving a knife from his trouser pocket and started to raise it. If nobody was going to end her life for him then he mightiest well do it himself even if it meant being seen by others. Now how shall he do this? Questions started to circulate in his mind, she didn't deserve a quick death that would be too easy and it would be over too quickly. However, if he would go too slowly he would just get sick and tired of listening to her groans and her voice all together. No, he was going to do this at a reasonable pace and he would make sure of it.
