Chapter Twenty Two

The Recovery

The day after the fire had been put out had been strange and dull, some people who had survived the fire hardly said a word to anyone, the pubs were empty even the inn had no customers inside of it. The village was silent; it was like as if the place had been deserted. As if nobody lived here anymore. However, in one of the cottages Johnny was resting in a bed, a bedroom he didn't recognise nor had he ever been in as far as he was concerned. He had been awake for an hour or two and already he was feeling weary.

He heaved a small tired sigh remembering the dream he had before he woke up.

"Johnny, Johnny!" someone was calling his name, a woman to be exact. He ran through the village up towards the forest while the woman was pleading him to come back to her. He couldn't comprehend why she was so desperate for him to come back to her. He was eight years old at the time. As he ran through the woodland area he noticed a boy about his age standing not too far away from him in the distance. The boy had dark short hair, blue eyes and looked rather angry to see him when he noticed him forcing him to transform into his wolf form.

"You're a human! What are you doing here?" the boy asked looking at Johnny.

"I was exploring up here. I don't see what is so wrong about doing that. I'm a wolf too." he smiled towards the boy.

"Why should I believe you?" he heard the boy in his wolf form say.

Instead of answering the boy's question he transformed into his wolf form.

"Now do you believe me?" Johnny asked.

Both of the boys transformed back into their humans forms.

"What is your name?" Johnny asked.

"My name is Leon, what is your name? He returned the question.

"My name is Johnny. It's nice to meet you Leon. How old are you?" he questioned Leon.

"I'm eight years old." Leon stated.

"We're the same age." Johnny said happily before hearing his mother calling for him.

"I have to head back now. Can we meet up tomorrow?" Johnny asked.

"You won't be going back." Leon said bluntly.

"What do you mean?" Johnny asked.

"You won't have your mother for much longer. Someone will take her away from you." Leon responded.

"Liar, nobody is going to take her away from me." Johnny replied.

Without another word Johnny ran off back towards where he had last seen his mother before cuddling into her once he had seen her.

"Now now, what is the matter? No more tears." she cooed him as she wiped his tears away from his cheeks.

It had been a while since he had dreamt of his mother. She was the only person who had raised him up. He hardly knew his father, his mother told him that his father had died before he was born but a part of him didn't believe it or didn't want to believe it since he had always wanted to meet his father.

"I'm glad to see you are looking better now." he was brought out of his thoughts when he heard Delilah speaking to him.

"I imagine I must be as pale as a ghost." he retorted.
