Chapter Six
Sleep well my Angel
The sun shone brightly today; no sound of the wind which had been howling could be heard from her bedroom window. She sat down on her bed quietly before a knock came on her door.
"Evelyn darling are you in there?" Thankfully it was her mother calling her.
"Yes mum I am," Evelyn forced out, relieved that it was her mother.
"Darling come out! We can have our picture taken outside in the garden; it's lovely and warm. Come on out honey for me please," her mother encouraged her.
She loved her mother dearly. Before she had time to open her door, her mother did it for her. Her mother was very beautiful; she had long light blonde hair that touched her waist, light blue eyes, and was five foot eight.
Evelyn almost envied her mother; she wished she had been blessed with blonde hair but no, she had the darkest brown hair almost black like her father's, but thankfully she had her mother's eyes and facial features.
She watched as her mother walked over to her. Her mother was wearing a lovely dark navy blue short-sleeved dress that covered her shoulders and had on white sandals.
She smiled warmly as her mother held out a hand to her; her mother meant a lot to her and had a lovely name that was prettier than hers, in Evelyn's opinion that is. She was called Elisabeth. Sometimes Evelyn secretly wished that she had been called Elisabeth but instead she had been given the name Evelyn.
"Come on honey, let's go outside," her mother suggested pleasantly earning a small smile from her only child.
Evelyn took hold of her mother's hand following her out of her bedroom. As she did so, she made sure to close the bedroom door behind her.
Following her mother downstairs outside into the garden, Evelyn noticed that there was a camera stand in the garden. It had been set up near one of the large oak trees. There were a few flowerbeds in the garden with daffodils, daisies, snowdrops and other beautiful flowers.
"Mummy why is it so important that we get our pictures taken?" Evelyn asked.
"It's important that we get our pictures taken together so that many years from now you can look back and have your memories of us. I also want to have memories of my special little girl and cherish these moments with you as much as I cherish my little angel," Elisabeth explained carefully.
"You're not sick are you? I don't want you to be sick." Evelyn stated.
"Of course not sweetheart, mummy isn't sick," she replied.
She watched her mother make her way over towards the camera and press the set button on the camera before quickly walking over towards Evelyn again and stand beside her, holding her hand tightly while gazing at the camera. The camera didn't take long to start flashing causing Evelyn to blink her eyes a few times at the brightness of the light.
After a while the camera stopped flashing and Evelyn's mum went over to the camera to take a look at the pictures the camera had taken of them. Evelyn walked over towards her mother to share her opinions on the pictures. Some of them she didn't like and some she did.
"Hmm, are you hungry?" her mother asked.
"Yes I'm starving," she whined.
"Well come on into the house and I will make us something to eat," her mother stated. They wandered back into the house and entered the kitchen. It wasn't anything very special just a decent-size for a kitchen; there was a small light brown-wooden table in the centre of the kitchen, the walls were black (talk about being gloomy) but it was what her father wanted. Her mother wanted them white, but according to her mother, her father persisted on them being black. Lastly but not least, there was a fridge that was across from the small table. They didn't have enough money to buy a dishwasher in all honesty; well her father did but he was more interested in getting drunk than saving up to buy a dishwasher.
