He Loves Her

Thomas loves her, of course, he does. How could he not love her? She was sweet, kind, smart, and beautiful. Oh so very beautiful.

So of course he loves her. Him loving her is not the problem… Him not being able to show her is.

You would think that after seven years of marriage he would and should be able to show her that he loves her. But he can't, it's not how he was raised. Yes, he is well aware that his parents should not affect his way of life, not now when he is so grown. But he also seems unable to do that and it's really not even his fault.

Not entirely anyway, his parents did a number on him. Left a lifetime of hurt with him and said goodbye. So he had never felt love, he didn't even love himself, not completely that is. Thomas had never been loved, not until he met Angelica.

She had shown him there was more to life than pain and disappointment. She had shown him love, the kind of love he thought only existed in movies. But theirs was real, so very real he could almost touch it. It was real, pure, and theirs.

So with all this, he should really be able to show her that he does love her. She says that he does show her, and even if he didn't she would still know. And yeah that's sweet but isn't enough. Not for the woman who had given him a taste of life, and let him keep the flavor on his tongue, and savor it.

Her simply knowing is simply not enough.

But maybe the kisses he presses to her temple when he thinks she's asleep are enough. Or maybe the way he walks with his hand on the small of her back, subconsciously letting everyone know that she is his and only his. Perhaps it's enough when he tells her, when he mutters the words to her in the morning, when he practically shouts it to her in the afternoon, and when he whispers 'I love you' in the night after he presses the soft kiss to her forehead

Perhaps that is enough.
