A/N: So this is a Grey's Anatomy AU. I used the same backstories as Grey's this too. But I've altered a lot of stuff about Grey's to fit this story. Also, there are probably spoilers in here. And if you watch Grey's anatomy let me know when you spot who the characters are supposed to be.

It was burning up in the car as Angelica sped down the road, all four windows rolled down, hot air blowing in her face... That was the last thing Angelica cared about. Her mind was focused on one thing and one thing only... Getting to the hospital.

From what she heard Thomas had been fine one second and collapsing the next. They didn't know what had caused him to fall unconscious, but it was serious. It wasn't as if he had fainted from dehydration, they had crossed that off. Now they were running tests and X-rays. He was awake now but fear was still coursing through her veins. So as she raced through the streets of Seattle her heart was in her gut.

She needed him to be okay, she didn't know what she would do without him.

She finally made it to Schuyler Lauren's memorial, after sitting in traffic for twenty long minutes. She quickly got out of her car and made her way to the inside of the hospital. As she walked through the first floor it was as if water filled her ears. She couldn't hear anything but the muffled noise of the busy hospital lobby.

In her haste to get to the fourth floor, she hadn't realized her sister was calling out for her. Not until her sister had grabbed her by the arm had the water filling her ears drained.

"Eliza, sorry, what did you need?" Angelica asked, but she was detached from the world at the moment, her mind far away from her sister's concerned face.

"I was asking you why you're here today. It's your day off." Her sister hadn't let go of her arm, her hand now resting on Angelica's left shoulder.

"They didn't tell you?" Her voice was strained and her body was tense.

Eliza shook her head, "I went to see the kids on my lunch break, what did I miss?" It was here Angelica remembered that just because her world had come to halt didn't mean everybody else's had.

"Thomas, he's-he's in the hospital." She said with a confused shake of her head. Everything was so confusing, she didn't understand how this could happen. Thomas, he was the epitome of health and he had no prior health-related issues. So how and why had this happened to Thomas of all people?

"As a patient?" Eliza questioned and Angelica could only offer a head nod. "Oh, Angelica, I'm so sorry, do you know what floor he's on?" Eliza dropped the hand that was on Angelica's left shoulder as if she was in the process of activating protective little sister mode.

"Fourth, room six," Angelica said, repeating the information that she had been told on the phone. Eliza took Angelica's hand and guided her to the elevators. They stepped onto the lift, still hand in hand. The steel doors closed and Angelica's grip around Eliza's became steel just like those metal doors.

There was a ding and then the doors opened.

As they stepped off the elevator, Angelica became numb. The feel of Eliza's warm hand in hers had disappeared, the world became a blur of pale colors and fluorescent lights. The water had filled her ears again, only this time it was because she was submerged. She was drowning in the ice-cold water of her fear.

Only when she walked into Thomas's room and seen his pale face did she come back to earth. It was as if she had broken through the surface of a salty pool and the taste of the salted water was still on her tongue.

The warm, salty, metallic taste of blood pooled in her mouth and she realized she had bitten down on the inside of her cheek hard enough to draw blood. She thickly swallowed the blood and saliva filling her mouth and focused her attention on Thomas's chalky face and slow breathing.
