Just Another Tuesday2604 words
Aurora watched as the snow fell around the other buildings in Jackson. The book she once was reading was long discarded on the bed, watching as the people walked by the shops on the street. Her thoughts slowly drifted over to a familiar person, Ellie. She thought about the upcoming dance this week wondering if she would be attending but soon shook the thought off beginning to doze off. The sound of knocking tore her from her thoughts her eyes drifting over to her door. "Come in" she spoke quietly but Maria could still hear her.
"Hey patrols are soon and you've got yourself a new partner. Dina took yours." Aurora was confused. Jamie had been her partner for 2 years and now it was changing? "And before you ask, it's a surprise meet me downstairs in 5 minutes, and look good!" Maria whispered the last part with a smile that both scared and excited Aurora. She stood and up and quickly got dressed deciding it was rather decent for whoever it could be.
She walked down the stairs soon landing at the bottom with Maria coming to greet her, "Your patrol partner is waiting at the gate for you have fun." Aurora laughed nervously, "I swear if it's Ben I'm leaving and never coming back." Maria rolled her eyes, "Ben is not that bad!" "Says you!" Aurora laughed grabbing her backpack from the couch, "See you later Maria." Maria nodded and headed into the kitchen as Aurora walked out of the house.
The cold chill of the winter morning swept across her cheeks as the door swung closed behind her. "If it's Ben-" She shook her head in annoyance walking quickly towards the gate she wondered if this patrol would be as slow as Monday's. Finally she arrived to the gate looking around for her new partner, "Hey Tammy you seen my new patrol partner." Tammy laughed and pointed to the second person Aurora did not want to see. Ellie.
"T-thanks Tammy" "No problem Rory." Aurora sighed and looked down at her feet while she walked. "Hey Partner." She looked up and made eye contact with Ellie, "H-hey" she gave a slight wave immediately feeling stupid. "S-sorry I'm j-just cold." Ellie chuckled and nodded "I second that." Aurora turned too the gate and pointed "We should go" she smiled. Ellie nodded scratching the back of her neck awkwardly "Yeah."
They walked together in a comfortable silence, Aurora looked off in the distance avoiding looking at Ellie. "Who was your last partner?" Ellie questioned knowing she already knew the answer. Aurora looked over to Ellie and made eye contact once again before quickly looking towards the gate, "Jamie. Yours was Dina right?" Ellie nodded and stopped at the stables, "She decided I wasn't good enough." Ellie fake frowned making the other girl smile as she walked to her horse, "Hey Christmas." she rubbed her horses mane smiling at the white horse who leaned into her touch. "Hey never got around to asking you, why the name Christmas?" Ellie asked getting up onto Shimmer's back. Aurora shrugged, "I like it."
Aurora got onto her horses back and huffed knowing it was going to be a long day. "W-why the name Shimmer?" Ellie laughed nodding to the people at the gate, "I like it." She gave Aurora a bright smile making her turn away to avoid her blush from being seen. The gate then opened and they rode out towards the snowy path trotting along next to each other.
"Are you going to that dance thing?" Aurora looked over at Ellie and shrugged "I don't know but Dina really wants me too. Are you?" Ellie copied Aurora's shrug looking forward at the trees ahead. "Not sure either, being honest I hate those things." Aurora smiled looking away into the distance towards the building that were coming close. "Y'know I miss when we used to hang out back when I first got there." Aurora looked over at Ellie trying to hide her joy and confusion.
