Chapter Fourteen

Near Death Experiences

I'm sorry if some of this doesn't make sense, the stairs part made my head hurt and the amount of time I wrote 'train car' makes me wanna cry :)

Aurora sat back holding her breath for so long to the point that her chest went tight and the urge to breath grew more and more. Her hand found Ellie's squeezing it hard, both of them pushing so hard against the wall their backs began to ache as clickers walked by them quietly. The growls of shamblers came from the other side of the wall. Everytime their heavy and bloated feet hit the ground Aurora could feel the vibrations on the ground, her stomach sinking more and more. Ellie leaned in as close to Aurora's ear as possible with her mask on, keeping her voice so quiet it was barely even a whisper.

"We have to kill them." Aurora squeezed her hand harder, staring forward without moving to the point that she was forming tunnel vision, the room around her disappearing. "I know." She worded back, closing her eyes swallowing hard. "Fire." Aurora opened her eyes and turned her head looking at Ellie who nodded. "Fire hurts bloaters, it'll hurt them." Aurora swallowed again watching Ellie agree. "We've gotta take care of some of the others." she shook her head looking to a clicker that was walking by. Aurora got off her butt trying to swallow her fear, the want to get out growing more than the want to stay there and not move. Staying as low as possible to the ground Aurora pulled out her pocket knife and walked. She walked slowly, so slowly she was silent, her feet making nearly no noise against the dusty and broken ground.

She creeped up behind it standing up very slowly facing it's back. Out of the corner of her eye she saw Ellie move across the room towards another clicker in the same fashion she did. Aurora raised her arm putting all her force into stabbing it in the neck grabbing it's shaking body and pulling it to the ground trying to make as little noise as possible. Right in front of her Ellie did the same then stood up. A low growl then entered the room Aurora turning when those same heavy footsteps came into the room, the vibrations having been forgotten until then. They froze hoping it couldn't see them, hoping it was blind but it screamed, it screamed so loud it hurt their ears then charged right at Aurora it's footsteps stomping so hard against the ground that things around them bounced up and down and dust fell from the ceiling.

It screeched running right at her giving no option but to run. Aurora sprinted away and out of the room towards a door that glowed with a red light admitting from it startling some runners along the way. The large beast ran right behind her only making her want to run faster feeling it's strong footsteps right behind her. She ran into the room that held the flares glow and to the left realizing it was a dead end she turned around the fear sinking in her eyes wide and breathing heavy. It was smoky and her gasmask didn't help, she could barely see the room foggy her chest heaving feeling the ground shake harder and harder until finally the shambler came sprinting at her only stopping when it blew up into flames. It screamed and growled smacking itself Aurora stood her blood running cold, watching it as she backed up against the wall.

It screamed exploding with some sort of pus gas flying everywhere burning Aurora's skin. She took off running past the shambler to Ellie who grabbed Aurora spinning her around so that she stood behind her. Ellie lit up another bottle from her bag throwing it at the Shambler watching it scream and fall to the ground and shake. A runner then emerged from the dark doorway charging at them but Aurora was fast pulling her gun out from her side and shooting it in the neck watching it drop. One last explosion came from the now dead shambler scaring both of them as they stuck to each other's side. Aurora grabbed onto Ellie's arm again taking in a deep breath trying to stop the immense shaking that her body had begun out of fear, she stared at the doorway hearing the all too familiar stomping footsteps and growls.
