The Chaos

2588 words

"There's at least 5 and that's just right here." Ellie spoke so quietly it was barely a whisper. Aurora laid on her stomach keeping her head down in the grass, her chin digging into the dirt. "He's gotta be around here somewhere!" "He can't be!" "He has to be! He just blew up one of our fuckin' trucks!" "Are you sure?" "Yes I'm fuckin' sure!" "Alright. Everyone spread out we may have multiples!" Ellie and Aurora both got on their feet and began to walk across the street towards a house. Ellie ran up to the door opening it as silently as possible. Aurora followed her in shutting the door behind them.

There was a staircase leading down just to the right in front of Aurora. The two had the same idea, both walking down the stairs as quietly and quickly as they could. Aurora looked around, a kitchen-like area was just to the left then behind them was a living room with a fireplace, the furniture either gone or broken. Aurora would've made a comment on how nice the house was but she knew she couldn't instead, deciding to stay by Ellie's side with her mouth shut. They peaked out of the glass door and window spotting a man coming up. He muttered curses and other things to himself that were inaudible, Aurora nearly laughed at his face pulling out her pocket knife getting it ready in her hand.

"Fuckin' stupid dude. So du-" Then like that a blade went through his throat. Aurora watched Ellie drop the man's body then nod her head signaling to leave the room. They entered the backyard a broken piece of fence to the left, broken enough for them to see above the concrete wall into the other yard. A wolf stood on the roof just above the porch of the other house, a man with a dog then came past walking towards the street. "Where the fuck is he?" The response was quiet, Aurora felt like her heart was going to beat straight through her chest and onto the ground in front of her. Her breathing was drowned out by the loud pounding in her ears. Ellie could sense the worry that Aurora held grabbing her hand giving her a reassuring look before climbing up the small cement wall and onto the grass just above.

They both crawled on their stomachs and around the wooden fence that blocked their way entering another backyard. They immediately saw a man with a dog standing at the end of the bar and grill set, walking around. They stayed on their stomachs following directly behind the man until he turned walking up onto the porch of the house. They crawled around the shed and on the side of the house to a broken window.

Aurora took a huge deep breath trying to calm her heart from pounding against her rib cage even closing her eyes for a moment hearing Ellie climb through the window. She climbed in after Ellie who already managed to take down a woman dropping her dead body to the ground. They made eye contact before Aurora left the room entering another area of the house. A woman stood at the window that they needed to climb through forcing Aurora to bring her pocket knife to her throat shoving deep into her skin letting her body drop to the ground. Aurora leaped through the window, her shoulder beginning to burn from all of the activities but she ignored it, not even touching it.

"The garage." Ellie spoke startling Aurora. They nodded and then made a run for it getting spotted almost immediately. Aurora barged through the door then to the right running through the giant hole in the garage wall falling down the hill on her back, mud seeping into her jeans. They entered the yard of a burnt down house staying low to the ground when three more wolves entered through a gap in the fence. "Where did they go?" "How many?" "Two. Two girls." "The ones from the school?" "I think so. They're probably with that other trespasser." "Keep your eyes open." Ellie pulled a bottle out from her backpack throwing it hard across the entire yard letting it hit the fence. Aurora then took off with Ellie close behind running into the house staying low and hunched over while entering.
