Bloody Bonding

"How long till the sun goes down?" Aurora questioned squinting as she looked up at the blue sky a few funny shaped clouds rolling passed. "A few hours at minimum we have time don't worry." Aurora hugged Ellie closer looking at the abandoned car remembering the car seat from earlier, "I saw a baby car seat in the back of a car earlier, I know I should be used to it but it still makes me sad y'know?" Ellie stayed quiet, her eyes dropping a bit, her hand lightly brushing against Aurora's knee everytime Shimmer stepped forward causing Aurora's cheeks to heat up a bit at the contact.

"Yeah, sometimes I forget that these things happened." Finally they came to a large opening huge buildings all around her, an open field in the middle. She looked up at the buildings that were either heavily leaned over and falling apart or completely destroyed leaving only their foundation or a small part. "Where are we?" Ellie pulled a map from the side of her backpack and flipped it open taking another look around. Aurora leaned over her shoulder, setting her chin beside Ellie's head causing Ellie to move the map so it was in better view for Aurora.

"I'm pretty sure we're here." Aurora pointed to a random street on the map that she thought looked familiar, "Alright I'll mark it up as we go." Aurora nodded and leaned back shifting because her butt was starting to ache from sitting on the saddle for so long with little breaks. "Hey that building looks dome shaped right?" Aurora pointed ahead to a golden roofed building Ellie's eyes drifting to look where her finger was directed, nodding, her bottom lip slightly pushed out. "Yep looks like it could be 'the dome' definitely not a garage." Aurora yawned, setting her forehead against Ellie's back, closing her eyes, feeling Shimmer begin to move again the grass underneath her feet, rustling with every step.

"You doing alright back there?" Aurora giggled and lifted her head up opening her eyes, "As good as I can be given the circumstances. I gotta say our luck sucks right now." Ellie laughed moving her foot to tap Shimmer's side making the horse go slightly faster. "Eh I think we're doing alright better than that guy." She nodded towards a rotting corpse laying beside a broken cement wall long dead a ripped soldier's outfit dangling off his bones. "Yeah I mean, that's true." Aurora agreed, giggling in between her words smiling. The dome shaped building came closer and closer the golden building shining brighter and brighter as they moved. Finally Shimmer huffed stopping in front of the dome shaped building Ellie scooting off the horse onto the green grass with a thump. "This building is bigger than it looked over there." Ellie's breathy chuckle didn't go unnoticed as she tied Shimmer up helping Aurora off the horse.

"Why thank you ma'am." Aurora said with a strong southern accent dripping from her words. "No problem m'lady" Ellie slightly bowed and walked over to an area beside the building and inside turning to make sure Aurora followed. A fence came along Ellie nodding to climb over both going at the same time. Aurora went to stand up after landing on the other side but was quickly pulled back down laying in the tall grass of the yard looking at Ellie who softly held a hand over her mouth keeping her from talking. Quickly she moved her hand nodding over to a few runners from what Aurora could see thinking it wouldn't be that hard to take them down but was wrong, "Shit would've been easier if it were just runners, but to the left is a clicker." Ellie clenched her jaw pulling her knife from her pocket. "Just one?" She whispered almost inaudible, "yeah I think so."

"Let's hope." Aurora finished pushing herself off her stomach and going into a crouched position quickly running towards one of the distracted infected standing up and grabbing it's forehead pulling it back it's neck open for her to take. She quickly ripped her knife from her pocket reaching to the runner's neck in one swift movement slitting its throat, blood spraying forward onto a few plants. Aurora got back down into the grass, none of the other's noticed her behind them. "Ellie to your right." She quickly whispered to the other girl warning her of the monster beside her. Ellie stood up stabbing the thing right in the neck, it going down with a few sqwacks then falling twitching for a moment. Finally it went still and silent Ellie making eye contact with Aurora just a few feet away now her breathing silent but heavy, her eyes showing obvious signs of worry.
