Aurora woke up the windows light stabbing her in the eyes creating a burning sensation. Her quickly turned her head away noticing the empty bed where Ellie once laid was now empty but still warm, she hadn't been gone for long. Aurora knew Tommy would come to wake her up soon quickly throwing her discarded pajamas from last night and standing up. She couldn't help but to think Ellie regretted it, that she regretted the entire night but then she remembered the girl had early patrol and probably had to leave. Turning to her bedside table she noticed a small note written on an index card in messy handwriting,
Early Patrol see you after
A small sketch was beside it of a sunflower, Aurora's favorite flower since she was a child. The door opened and Tommy walked in dressed and ready to go, "We're a little late let's move kid." Aurora nodded setting the note in her bedside drawer and walking to her closet listening to Tommy shut the door. Changing and fixing her appearance she went to the bathroom and then headed downstairs with her backpack on holding onto the straps meeting eyes with Joel who stood in the living room. "Ready?" Tommy asked "Yeah let's go." The three said goodbye to Maria and walked out the front door and towards the stables, "We'll only take 2 horses just incase." "I'm riding with Joel he doesn't go so fast." Aurora stuck out her tongue at Tommy who playfully glared at her.
"See I told you I'm better." Joel laughed as they walked up to the stables. "I'll get my horse Joel you get yours, Christmas deserves a day off." Aurora nodded standing and waiting for the two to get their horses. She noticed Shimmer was still in her stable and Jesse stood near an annoyed expression resting on his face. "Alright let's move." Aurora boosted herself onto the back of Joel's horse grabbing onto his waist for support, "We'll head towards the old ski lift but the area is pretty overrun we gotta be careful not to make any noise that'll attract them. If anything happens stay together."
"Got it oh and I brought sandwiches." Joel let out a laugh his stomach moving as the noise came out. "Don't tell Ellie but your my favorite." Aurora snorted leaning her head against Joel's back listening to him and Tommy quietly talk to one another until finally the topic of the dance arose. "Last night was something." Tommy laughed focusing his eyes forward, "Yeah one moment everything's fine and happy then the next I wanna curl up into a hole and die." Joel suddenly got quiet staring forward before speaking, "Y'know I should've known you two would end up together, now I know why Cat and you hated each other so much." Aurora's laugh was light closing her eyes remembering the night before and smiling. "I guess. I can't believe I was the last to know." They all laughed together until a few gunshots radiated into the air scaring both horses.
They continued ringing through the air finally Joel and Aurora's horse kicked them off running away into the trees practically screaming as it ran. Tommy's horse was slightly calmer but still wasn't staying still especially when clickers began to run out of the woods towards them. Aurora's back ached from landing on the bruise she had gotten a few days ago she groaned in pain but was pulled up by Joel who shot a few of the runners back grabbing Aurora by the arm. "We gotta move!" Tommy shot a few now scrambling off the ground his horse having thrown him off and ran. "Ski lift!" All three took of running shooting runner who got to close for their liking. Finally they arrived Joel helping a person trapped between the fence and the building an entire group of monsters trying to grab her. Aurora grabbed her and began running behind the two men shooting.
