Zed sat down on the sofa, his head in his hand in frustration.  Hindi niya ma-contact si Lyn.  Unattended na ang phone nito simula pa nang dumating siya sa Singapore.  Kinabahan na siya noon pa, pero he ignored that sinking feeling thinking that she might just be busy or in a place where there is no signal. 

He just arrived early this morning and he was expecting to see Lyn waiting for him.  He wanted to eat breakfast with her and talk with her.  He had longed to touch her.  The past five days without her was torture for him.

Pero, wala na siyang inabutang Lyn sa condo niya.  Wala na ang mga gamit nito sa closet niya.  Doon siya kinabahan.  Tinawagan niya ang cellphone ni Lyn ngunit unattended pa rin ito.  Tinawagan niya din ang landline sa condo ni Lyn ngunit walang sumasagot.  Tinawagan na rin niya si Shiela at doon na nalaman na naka-leave daw ito sa opisina at hindi nila alam kung saan pumunta.

Anong nangyari?  Bakit ganoon na lamang ang ginawa ni Lyn.  Iniwan ako ng wala man lang pasabi.  No note, no nothing.  She just disappeared like smoke in the wind. Naisip ni Zed.  Lalo itong na-depress.

The worst thing that is eating him up is that she is pregnant.

Fuck her independence!  Kung ibang babae lang ito she would’ve stuck with me like glue.  But this is Julia Lyn Villasanta.  Rich.  Intelligent.  And she doesn’t need him to live her life the way she wants it.

Realizing that in his mind made Zed feel so powerless.  She doesn’t need him and she had always made it clear to him.

But he is not a Montevista for nothing.  He picked up the cellphone that was resting on the coffeetable in front of him and dialed a number.

The next day, sa isang coffeeshop nagkita si Tony at Zed.  May kasma si Tony na isang lalaki.  Sa tindig at tikas nito halatang isa itong sundalo.  Nagkamay ang tatlo nang nagkita sila at pinakilala ni Tony ang kasama.  Col. Brix Sandoval, isang dating marine na dahil sa injury ay nagpasyang mag-early retirement na.  Ngayon ay nagma-may-ari na ng isang security agency at private investigation firm.

“Salamat Tony at pinaunlakan mo ang tawag ko.” Panimula si Zed after shaking his hand.  “Time is of the essence here.  She might have left the country already at lalo tayong mahihirapang hanapin siya.”

“Actually sir,” nagsimula si Brix, “we have made initial inquiries thru DFA and NAIA, and her name is not on the international flight manifestoes of any flight that left from Friday and today.  We are currently checking on the domestic flight manifestoes pero mas mahirap yun due to the sheer number of the flights that leave everyday.”

“Wow, that’s quick.” Nabuhayan si Zed.  Nasiyahan din sa mabilis na trabaho si Tony.

“We are the best in what we do sir.” Sagot naman nj Brix.  Tumango lang si Zed.

“How about you Tony, what have you found out so far?” tanong naman ni Zed kay Tony.

“All her properties are still in-tact.  I had my people visit her place in Tagaytay. Only a caretaker was there.  All her cars are parked in her condo’s basement parking, and the CCTV in her condo building revealed that she left on a taxi Monday morning but no one can tell where she went.”  Mahabang sagot ni Tony.

“Yun lang ba?  Sa office niya, anong sabi ni Jo?  Ni Shiela?” tanong pa ni Zed.

“They don’t know where she went.  Basta ang alam nila ang paalam lang daw ni Lyn ay magpapahinga lang daw siya.  Hindi nila alam kung saan.” Sagot naman ni Tony.
