CHAPTER 29

“Hindi na ako magpapaligoy-ligoy pa.” Nagsimula si Joy.  “Marry my daughter Arch. Montevista.” 

Natulala si Zed sa narinig.

Tama ba yun?  She want’s me to marry her daughter?

“It looks like you are schocked by what I said Arch. Montevista?” sabi ni Joy.

“I…  I just wasn’t expecting that you would say that.” Sabi ni Zed.

“Sa totoo lang, I don’t like you Zed.  More so, I don’t like you for my daughter.  You are arrogant.  You are a controlling man.  And the last I heard you are a playboy out to break the heart of every girl you meet.  Even if you are financially stable you are not good husband material.  I won’t let you near my daughter with a ten foot pole.”  Napakunot noo si Zed.  It was nothing but rude to hear all that from Joy, Lyn’s mother.

“If that’s what you think of me, why are you telling me to marry her?” tanong ni Zed.

“Because I think she loves you, but she doesn’t know it yet.”  Direktang sagot ni Joy. 

Love.  Parang gustong matawa ni Zed.  Sa totoo lang wala siyang confidence kay Lyn kung yan ang pag-uusapan.  Simula pa lang brinaso na niya ang sitwasyon upang mapasakanya si Lyn.  He has been pushing that issue at the back of his mind.  To him, it didn’t matter.  He wants Lyn.  And from the looks of things and his reaction several hours earlier to the news of the possibility of losing her, it seems he loves her more than anything in this world.  Not his money, not his achievements, but her, Atty. Julia Lyn Garcia Villegas.

Sinilip ni Zed ang natutulog pa ring nobya.  Mahimbing pa rin ito.  Oblivious to the conversation going on just a few steps away from her.

“Bakit mo nasabing pwedeng, mahal niya rin ako?” Zed asked Joy as he continued watching Lyn’s sleeping form.

“Dahil ikaw lang ang lalaking hinayaan niya sa kanyang buhay.” Sagot ni Lyn.

“How about Frank?” tanong ni Zed.  Ayaw niya sanang tanungin, ngunit alam niyang isa itong komplikasyon na dapat harapin niya.  Kung dati ay ang mga random men sa Friday one-night stands ni Lyn ang kinatatakutan niya, ngayon ay may specific person na.

“Kaibigan niya lang si Frank.  Sinabi na niya ito sa akin a few day ago.  I was hoping that it would grow into something.  But, I don’t think he is good for her.” Sagot ni Joy.  Mabait si Frank, magalang at matulungin.  Sa totoo lang, with his positive and responsible nature, Frank is husband material.  Ngunit, sigurado si Joy na hindi ito makakabuti kay Lyn.  Lyn is headstrong and as a mother, she knows she needs a man who is her equal, someone who could subdue her, someone who can make her keel and she feels that it is Zed.  Papaikutin lang ni Lyn si Frank sa kanyang mga daliri.

In all honesty, she is still not sure about Zed.  He still needs to start respecting Lyn as an equal.  She wants to see him listen to Lyn and give value to her opinions and her feelings.  From the looks of it, Zed is still the selfish tycoon he has been reared to be and he needs to change.  But she was willing to bet that he will… in time.

“This is all so overwhelming Joy.  I was expecting you to talk me out of pursuing Lyn and here you are actually encouraging me.  What made you change your mind?”  nakatingin na ngayon si Zed kay Joy.  Gusto niyang malaman ang nasa isip nito.

“I have not made up my mind about anything Zed.  I was just observing you and Frank all along and I feel you will be good for my Julia Lyn.” Sagot ni Joy ng may ngiti.  “Besides,” simula ulit ni Joy, “Ayoko na ng apong walang ama.  I’ve been there and Joyce have been there.”  Binaling ni Joy ang tingin sa anak na nakaratay.  “I don’t want Lyn to experience the difficulty that we, as single mothers, have experienced.  I know Lyn can very well manage it.  She has seen me and Joyce raise kids on our own.  Pero, ayaw ko lang mangyari ito kay Baby Zion.  I want him to grow up with a complete family.  He deserves it.”  Ito ang pinakamatinding dahilan kung bakit gusto ni Joy na makasal si Lyn at Zed.  Hindi masyado para kay Lyn, kundi para sa anak nito na apo na niya.

“Pero, sabi ni Lyn…” Zed paused.  “Lyn said she doesn’t want me to marry her because of the baby.”

“Then make her.” Madiin na saad ni Joy.  “Make her marry you.  Do not give up on her.  She is stubborn and aggressive and headstrong.  You must be more stubborn than her.”  Napatiim bagang si Zed sa sinabi ng future mother-in-law niya.

Hell yeah!  I won’t give up on her! Zed thought with renewed enthusiasm.

Makaraan nilang mag-usap ay nagpaalam si Joy na sisilipin si Baby Zion at kakausapin ang mga nurse sa nursery tungkol sa lagay nito.  Nakalimutan na nga naman ni Zed ang kalagayan ng bata.  Naka-focus kasi siya kay Lyn.  Ngayon ay naiwan siyang muli kasama si Lyn sa kwarto.

Nakatitig na naman siya rito.  Hanggang ngayon, kahit sa sinabi ni Joy na nagpabuhay sa damdamin niya, nababalot pa rin siya ng kakaibang kaba.  Hindi siya sigurado na magpapakasal si Lyn sa kanya.  Hindi rin siya sigurado sa sinabi ni Joy na kaibigan lang talaga si Frank ni Lyn.  Sa inasta niya kanina bago sila napunta sa sitwasyong ito dito sa ospital ay mukhang nakapagpasiya na siya na si Frank ang makakasama niya habang buhay.  Ngunit, hindi siya makapapayag.  Gagawin niya ang lahat.  Lahat lahat.  Kaya’t nagsimula na siyang magplano.
