Winter
The note she tossed away was like a scab or a bad itch. I couldn't stop questioning what it might've said. I tried not to think too much on it but I couldn't help my curiosity. She'd written something and then decided that for whatever reason it was too risky. Why?
I woke the next morning to Kaiden showered and dressed in a grey suit and navy tie. His cologne filled our room and the way his hair was slicked back made him look dangerous.
"Well, hello, Sir." I purred, biting my finger attempting to be sexy. He was fixing his tie in our mirror and he smirked at me through it. "Come back to bed for ten minutes." I urged. He turned and leaned on the bed to kiss me. He tasted delicious and I felt embarrassed I hadn't brushed my teeth. I moaned into his mouth and felt upon his now scruffy face.
"I have to go, Babe. How about you come to my office for lunch?" I tangled my fingers in his hair and groaned. I was suddenly very very horny.
"Yeah, sure. Just text me what you'd like." He smiled and kissed me again.
"You're the best. I also seen a yoga studio not too far from here. Maybe you can make some friends there?" Which roughly translated to 'Get out of the apartment and make some new normal, non-gay friends'. I nodded and gave him a stiff smile.
"Kay." I fell back on the bed when he left and tried to get back to sleep. When I tossed and turned too many times I was grateful for the ring of my phone. "Hello?" I answered way too quickly.
"Winny, hey!" It was Trice, and in that moment I missed her more than ever. We've known each other since junior high. We did everything together, spent every waking moment in each others company. We went through friends upon friends but her and I had always stuck together no matter whatever drama. Trice was brave and funny, and she never had trouble keeping friends. I struggled because girls just didn't like me the way they did her. Most of the time when we made girlfriends they'd always exclude me. Trice said it was because I was quiet but my 'beauty' made me dangerous and girls didn't naturally trust me- especially around their boyfriends. She always said quiet hot women were deadly, they held some sort of power and it made men gravitate toward them. Something about how the shy quiet girls were more freaky. I couldn't have disagreed more. Kaiden and I had a very normal sex life, nothing freaky.
"Trice! Oh my god, I miss you!"
"I miss you more, seriously. I want you to come visit as soon as possible."
"Kaidens very busy these days, and I'm guessing he wants to be away from my parents for longer than a week. But I'll try in a couple more and we'll see."
"Your parents miss you."
"I know, I miss them, too. Have you been over there?" I asked.
"Yeah, not much but I go to keep them company. You know the house is lonely without you." I smiled because I knew my parents would miss me but I was thankful for Trice and how she cared for them like they were her own family. In a sense, they had been after all those years. I entered the kitchen and poured some coffee.
"That's sweet. I'm about to go check out a yoga class."
She snorted as if it were absurd and asked, "why?"
"To make friends, I guess. Kaiden wants me to make friends." It was kind of embarrassing when said aloud. It was as if a play date had been set up or something. I'd been a capable women, I wasn't convinced I needed guidance to befriend women. My inner self laughed and showed me clips of Trice literally helping us into cliques. Fuck.
"Good luck, Winny." I groaned at her tone and lack of confidence.
"I know, it's stupid and not likely to work. But he doesn't like the one friend I've made." I explained. I sipped the coffee and enjoyed the subtle burn as it fell down my throat.
"Screw him! He's not your keeper and you're a grown women. If she's not a psycho then it's none of his damn business. Tell him to stop acting like a control freak."
"I know, I know. I tried but he's so damn stubborn when he feels threatened. Which I don't understand at all-"
"Wait!" She shouted, recalling my last words. "Threatened? Why would he feel threatened?" I sighed, and prepared for her reaction, whatever it may have been.
"He thinks she has a crush on me, but yet he met her while she was sucking on some girls neck." She laughed heartily.
"He's insane. Is this girl hot?" If I would've answered faster she wouldn't have been suspicious, but I hesitated. "Oh my god, she is."
"I mean yeah, she is, but so are you and I've never made out with your face." I told her, hopefully recovering from my admittance.
"Exactly, so he has nothing to worry about, does he?"
"No, of course not."
After our conversation ended I showered and dressed in black spandex shorts and a teal sports tank top. I fiddled with my engagement ring, admiring the way it sparkled. I looked at myself in the mirror. My hips were curved and my sports bra showed from the exposed sides of the tank top. I had my hair pulled up and kept my face free of makeup. I didn't have any yoga mats so I headed out with nothing. As soon as I stepped out I realized I had left my keys.
"Fuck." I muttered, trying the knob.
"Very foul language, Ms. Moreau." She said, teasing me with her alluring husky voice. I turned toward her and took in her casual appearance. Dark skinny jeans and a black tank top.
"Phoebe," I managed as my heart picked up a few beats. Her svelte lips curved upward and showed off her shiny white teeth.
"Here, I got your mail by accident." She held out a couple of envelopes and when I grabbed them our fingers brushed against each other. The shock shot directly into the pit of my stomach and goosebumps sprouted across my skin. She took a step closer, "The mailmen are always in such a rush, I might end up with your mail again. So, don't be surprised." We were dangerously close, and my breath caught in my throat.
