Chapter 3: Earth Kingdom Sovereignty
General Grievous stood at the bridge controls of the lead Separatist Landing Ship, which was part of a bigger squadron of five. Their destination: a small Earth Kingdom village located just outside the border of the Western Fire Nation Colonies. Their mission: arrive to reinforce their new Fire Nation allies against a band of Earth Kingdom rebels that had been causing trouble. The cyborg General was confident nothing would go wrong with this assignment; it was merely a powerful show of force against their weaker enemies, nothing more.
The General, however, was less than impressed with the performance of the new soldiers that had come from their newfound ally over the past week. While a majority of this Droid Army Tank Division was still composed of the usual droids, a small percentage had been replaced by Fire Nation infantry, Firebenders (their skull faced helmets distinguished them from the rest), and a few scouts. Some of them stood guard at the doors in the landing craft while others were collaborating with the droids that worked the vehicle storage bays in the landing craft. While somewhat more competent than the average battle droid, General Grievous had caught several of the infantry engaging in ridiculous conversations with the battle droids while on their tasks, asking him stupid questions, and earlier in the courtyard, several of them had forgotten to salute him as he walked by... "He didn't look like the officers they were used to" was what one had said.
"Pathetic organics," he thought to himself. "Even my battle droids don't often make those kinds of mistakes."
He pushed those frustrations aside and looked over the shoulder of the droid pilot in front of him. According to the navigation panel, they were still about ten hours away from their destination. According to Count Dooku, they were to make a stopover at a Fire Nation Navy refueling station along the way to offload supplies. After that, they would proceed with the rest of the plan.
"Excuse me, General Grievous," a Fire Nation soldier said from behind, and Grievous turned to face him.
"What is it, Corporal?" Grievous growled, noting the soldier's rank insignia on his shoulder plates of two golden comet stripes with a sword underneath.
"Should we begin getting the supplies ready for drop off at the refuel station?" the Corporal asked simply while standing with his hands behind his back.
"Yes. Work with the engineers in the lower decks to load them onto transports. And make sure the transport's repulsorlifts are working." General Grievous instructed.
The Corporal raised an eyebrow.
"General? What do you mean repulsorlifts?"
Grievous sighed as he remembered how primitive the warfare of these humans was.
"Just make sure the transports are working properly." He ordered. The Corporal nodded, came to attention, and about-faced before leaving the General's presence.
"And that's another thing!" Grievous fumed inwardly. "How long will it take them to learn our technology?!"
He let his frustration go and focused back on the navigation screen.
Just a simple quelling of an insurrection. Nothing more.
........................
"Wow, so all of these starfighters run on fuel other than coal?" Sokka asked, feeling the cool durasteel of the V-19 with his hand.
"You betcha, kid!" clone trooper Boil replied smacking the laser cannon barrel pridefully. "I myself was unfortunately not given the designation of a pilot, but every now and then my buddy Sky-Hawk here will give me training sessions with his fighter." Boil said as he shook hands with the clone pilot.
