Chapter 23: From Prince to King
Activity Log: Grand Army of the Republic, Wolfpack Legion
Situation: The Fire Nation capital has been secured; Prince Zuko is now Fire Lord Zuko. Aang has neutralized Ozai's bending via his newfound power; both Ozai and his daughter have been securely imprisoned. Delta Squad and Clone Force 99, with Toph's assistance, have killed General Grievous. However, Toph is lethally wounded and is being medevaced back to Ba Sing Se. There is still much work to be done, for now Ozai loyalists that view Zuko's taking of the throne as illegitimate seek to usurp the order in the capital.
Mission: To assist Fire Lord Zuko and the Fire Nation military (now under his command) with keeping peace and stability in the city.
Execution: Fire Lord Zuko will send out an immediate call for the armed forces of the Fire Nation to surrender and withdraw all troops out of the Earth Kingdom, save for a peacekeeping force in the colonies. Major Vuong, captured during E-Day, has volunteered to help his new Commander-In-Chief bring the troops home, as he never had the courage to stand against Zuko's father until now. Additionally, Mai and Ty Lee, who turned against Azula during the fight, have volunteered to provide a list of wealthy aristocratic families that supported Ozai. This will aid High Command with gathering intel on the Ozai Loyalists.
Location: Fire Nation Capital
Time: 26 weeks since the Battle of the North Pole
"Are you sure there's nothing else you can do?!" Sokka yelled.
"Be quiet for at least two seconds and then maybe I can heal her better!" Katara snapped back.
Aang couldn't blame Sokka for how scared he was. After all, this was Toph! The great Blind Bandit herself who could single-handedly slaughter an entire company of Fire Nation soldiers! The powerful earthbender who'd forced him to face his greatest weaknesses and become a better Avatar!
She'd lost a lot of blood due to the lightsaber strike from Grievous that had opened a gash across her stomach. Presently, Katara was using all the water she had to contain the bleeding as best she could. Some of the Kyoshi warriors applied thick bandages and rags to aid the process. But even then, Toph's decreased pulse and skin that grew paler by the second indicated a much different outcome for the strong earthbender.
Aang was silent with sorrow and guilt; she wouldn't have gotten hurt in the first place if not for him.
Just then, a Republic gunship roared into the palace courtyard, and two clone medics hurriedly jumped out with a stretcher. Dashing over to Toph's position, they gingerly laid her out on the stretcher whilst the panicked Katara told them all the useful information she could think of.
"Don't worry kid, we'll take good care of her!" one of the medics promised as they put Toph in the gunship's lone bacta tank. "As soon as we get to Ba Sing Se, she'll go right to the hospital!"
The gunship flew off, leaving Aang, the now Fire Lord Zuko, Katara, Sokka, Suki and the three warriors who'd survived, the two elite clone squads, Anakin, Ahsoka, Obi-Wan, Mai, and Ty Lee with their prisoners Ozai and Azula. Ventress would've been a prisoner as well, had she not made a quick escape once the battle took an unfavorable turn. Ozai was silent for the most part, too humiliated and angry to boast of revenge. After all, even if the comet did bless his country with it's presence in this very moment, what was he to do now that the Avatar—who his daughter clearly hadn't killed—had taken away the very tool he used to enforce his iron will, his bending?
