Clap. Clap. Clap-clap.
Clap. Clap. Clap-clap.
The homorhythmic clapping of the Earth Kingdom recruits and clone cadets sounded loudly as they clapped their hands to stay in step. This was Staff Sergeant Bastion's favorite cadence after all; messing it up would equal a death sentence.
"Hard WORK!"
Clap. Clap. Clap-clap.
"Hard WORK!"
Clap. Clap. Clap-clap.
"Hard WORK!"
"Gettin up at a quarter to three!" Bastion called loudly.
"Hard work!"
"Gotta go, and earn my pay!"
"Hard WORK!"
"Paving the way to victory!"
"Hard WORK!"
"Hard work, I earn my pay!"
"Hard WORK!"
"Hard work, ya pave the way!"
"Hard WORK!"
"Hard work, that's what they say!"
"Hard WORK!"
"Hard work, ya earn your pay!"
"Hard WORK!"
"Hard work, do every day!"
"Hard WORK WORK!"
Clap. Clap. Clap clap.
"Hard WORK WORK!"
Clap. Clap. Clap clap.
The grueling run continued for another ten minutes before the stout clone trooper hollered for them to halt. Gasping for breath, they downed their water bottles as they clutched their sides. Behind the SNCO, Suki wiped her sweat from her face and eyes with a rag. Her and her warriors were used to rigorous training but even so, goodness gracious! The Staff Sergeant moved like a machine!
"Two minutes for your break, then partner up!" Bastion ordered. "We'll be conducting your practice Combat Casualty Test next!"
"Yes Staff Sergeant," the platoon groaned.
"WHAT WAS THAT?!" Bastion growled.
"YES STAFF SERGEANT!" the platoon screamed back.
"Excuse me, Staff Sergeant," Suki whispered. "I have some matters to attend to after we oversee this test, if it's permissible for me to leave after that?"
"Granted," Bastion said gruffly. She was his assistant instructor after all; she had limited freedom with her schedule.
After the recruits had finished carrying each other's "wounded" partners through the makeshift obstacle course, Suki quietly left with a small blush on her face. Sokka most likely wouldn't be around for a long time after all; she wanted at least one chance for a proper goodbye.
