Chapter Two: Nefarious Plots
General Grievous coughed as he and Count Dooku marched into the Fire Lord's palace with their group of four Magnaguard droids. The Firebender guards at the two massive golden doors eyed them nervously, but one sharp glance from the Count told them they ought to open the doors. As the doors parted, Grievous silently mocked the primitive technology of these humans. Though some possessed abilities to control the element of fire, a significant portion of their forces still wielded swords and shields. Their tanks and cavalry were a joke compared to the advanced might of the Droid Army. However, the Count had insisted that the faction of this world known as the Fire Nation had some benefit to offer the Separatist Alliance. And Grievous couldn't refuse orders from the Droid Army's Commander-In-Chief, so he reluctantly agreed to accompany the Count on his bargaining trip to the Fire Lord.
The space battle above this planet, which was called Earth, had been a fierce but quick one. As Lord Sidious had told them, the Republic fleet had already arrived in force and established a blockade. However, General Grievous, backed by the droid General Kalani had routed enough of their ships for them to land a decent sized force on the Fire Nation's shores. Despite tense initial encounters—Grievous had nearly slaughtered an entire Fire Nation platoon before they surrendered—Count Dooku had established contact with the Fire Lord and managed to arrange negotiations.
Which is where they were on their way to now.
Before long, they were in the Fire Lord's throne room. Six enormous pillars held up the ceiling, three on each side, and the only light in the room came from the massive line of fire behind the throne that extended wall to wall. Grievous noted the beads of sweat forming on the Count's forehead and thanked the Force that he was a cyborg. Unlike a full organic, he did not have to be subjected to feeling the full force of the heat.
A man the Count's height and appearing to be about mid-forties, along with his daughter stood in front of the throne and propelled themselves to them using their firebending abilities. The man's daughter, oddly, had blue fire when she firebended. Landing about five meters away from them, the man stood straight and met Count Dooku's gaze while his daughter stood across from Grievous. For the first time, Grievous saw an individual other than a Jedi who could meet the Count's gaze with equaled ferocity and tyranny.
There was a moment of tense silence.
"Greetings, Count Dooku, I am Fire Lord Ozai, and this is my daughter Princess Azula," the Fire Lord introduced. "I see you've already had an encounter with my military forces," he added passive aggressively, shooting a glare at the cyborg.
Grievous was not about to let this filthy organic undermine him.
"Your feeble platoon couldn't even take down one of my tanks!" he growled, reaching for two of his lightsabers. "I wouldn't have had to attack if it weren't for their pathetic attempts to stall the progress of our landing!"
"Silence, General!" Count Dooku barked at the bloodthirsty cyborg, and Grievous grudgingly took his hand off the hilt of his lightsaber.
Count Dooku turned back to the Fire Lord. "Yes, your Majesty, it appears we have. You have my apologies for the misunderstanding that occurred. However, rather than go to war with you I am proposing an alliance."
"And what exactly do you propose my father and would have to gain from this alliance?" Azula inquired with a spark of insolence that made Grievous infuriated.
