Chapter 9: Knowledge and Deception

Activity Log: Grand Army of The Republic, 501st Legion

Situation: General Skywalker, along with Avatar Aang, must travel to the Earth Kingdom capital of Ba Sing Se to begin planning a joint counterattack on the Fire Nation and CIS with the Earth King and his Generals. The Avatar and his friends have already been transferred over to the 501st.

Mission: To give Avatar Aang and his friends safe passage to the Capital, whilst also providing clone troopers with adequate training against waterbenders and earthbenders should the situation call for it (Katara, Toph, and Aang will help fulfill this goal).

Location: Republic Venator Iago, one of the warships in the 501st armada. There will of course be stops along the way.

Time: Two months since the Battle of the North Pole

"So, Master Luminara won't be joining us at Ba Sing Se?" Aang asked, surprised.

"Sadly, no," Anakin answered. "She was recalled to Coruscant when it was discovered her Padawan Barriss Offee committed sedition against the Republic in her absence."

"What did she do, exactly?" Katara inquired.

Anakin's face clouded as he recalled the details of Barriss Offee's treachery. "While we were fighting here on this planet, Barriss bombed the Jedi Temple by intimidating a man's wife into feeding him explosive nano-droids," Anakin explained. "She attempted to frame the woman and tried to kill her in her cell, but Commander Fox's troopers detected she was there and stunned Barriss as she tried to escape. It was a very high-security prison Barriss tried to break into after all."

Aang, Katara, and Sokka gasped while Toph simply shrugged.

"Eh, she tried to do something stupid and got caught. So what? She brought that on herself."

"That's my friend we're talking about here!" Ahsoka said angrily.

"Hey, don't get mad at me, pigtails," Toph said, waving her hand dismissively. "Sounds to me like she just wasn't as good a friend as you thought she was."

"She saved my life-!" Ahsoka began to retort.

"Ahsoka!" Anakin reprimanded. "That's enough." He turned back to Aang. "As I was saying: in light of this, the 501st Legion and I will now be accompanying you to the Earth Kingdom Capital while Master Kit Fisto takes command of the 41st."

"Who is Kit Fisto?" Sokka asked.

"A wise Jedi Master that you'll hopefully get to meet sometime soon," Anakin smiled. "In the meantime, let's make a plan for some training while en route to Ba Sing Se. My master is looking forward to some good training with you very skilled benders; he wants to try and get it done before he has to go back to his battalion."

"Yes, Master Skywalker," Aang bowed.

A few minutes later, Aang and his friends were back on the ground with Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Ahsoka, Captain Rex, and two platoons of 501st troopers. The next three hours of the morning consisted of improvised training scenarios, in which clone troopers (in one-on-one fights) were made to evade Aang's or Katara's waterbending slashes after their weapon had been knocked out of their hands. Sokka, having sparred with Katara in their younger days, demonstrated a few moves before letting the clone troopers try. At first, many troopers toppled like dominoes as Katara masterfully water-whipped them hard enough to knock them two meters back. But as the day went on, the clone troopers were able to better anticipate certain strikes, weave in and out before closing the distance, and kicking them down. Toph, however, was a different story, as her seismic sense made the exercise almost insulting for her.
