Chapter 17: Assembly

Activity Log: Grand Army of the Republic, 501st Legion

Situation: Commander Hakoda of the Southern Water Tribe Navy has arrived in Ba Sing Se with his forces. Additionally, General Kenobi and his unit have taken over for General Secura. With General Iroh's and Zuko's knowledge of the Fire Nation, the Republic can now begin planning the E-Day operation (E-Day being the name due to the intel of the eclipse Sokka has delivered to High Command).

Mission: To plan the invasion of the Fire Nation that shall commence on the morning of E-Day via utilization of Commander Hakoda's naval experience, General Iroh's knowledge of his homeland, and the now unified Earth Kingdom's military might.

Execution: Commander Hakoda, his son Sokka, and General Iroh are meeting with the Earth King's Council of Five, along with Generals Skywalker, Kenobi, and Commander Tano

Location: Ba Sing Se

Time: 21 weeks since the Battle of the North Pole

"Where did you say your sister was again, Sokka?" Hakoda inquired.

"She's at the palace with Toph and Zuko," Sokka answered rigidly. "As soon as she's made more progress with her healing sessions, Zuko and Toph will resume their training with him."

Hakoda chuckled. "At ease, son. I'm your father, not some old wrinkly general looking to fail you in a uniform inspection."

Sokka sighed. "Sorry, dad. I just..." his voice trailed off.

Hakoda was concerned. "Son?"

"I've always wanted you to see what a better warrior I've become," Sokka began. "I'm stronger, faster, and braver than the day you left our village. I've been training with ARC troopers, even Captain Rex when he's not busy with his officer duties! I was so confident I'd finally make you proud. But now that you're here, I guess...I feel like every second could be another chance that I mess something up."

Hakoda smiled warmly.

"But my son, you're forgetting something," he teased.

Sokka gulped. "No I'm not! I made sure my belt had all my gear on and the armor the clones gave me is polished!"

"No, not your equipment, young man," Hakoda read his son's mind.

"Then what, dad?" Sokka asked meekly.

Hakoda put his hand on his son's shoulder.

"I'm already proud of you."

Sokka was stunned.

"You are my son, young warrior," Hakoda said again. "And I will always be proud of you."

The reunited father and son hugged each other tightly. Sokka wept. He'd been fighting so hard to make his father proud.

But he never needed to.

"Now," Hakoda declared, straightening Sokka's shoulders. "Let's get into this meeting shall we?"

Sokka nodded confidently. They hadn't been invited to the Royal War Chamber in the Middle Ring for nothing after all; Sokka needed his best game face on. As he strode into the main room at his father's right side, he noted the presence of all the higher brass in the room. Anakin Skywalker, Ahsoka Tano, and Obi-Wan Kenobi were present, along with Commander Cody and Captain Rex. Having been ordered elsewhere a week earlier, Secura and her forces had departed and now Kenobi was here with his unit in their place. The senior enlisted of both battalions, Sergeant Majors Reginald and Nicodemus, stood with the aforementioned brass on the right side of the massive cartography table. On the left side, General Iroh and Commander Doom gazed on the map sternly, as if the map had committed a sin such as losing bearing when speaking to a senior leader. The Earth King's top Generals, also known as the Council of Five, stood directly across from Sokka and his father.
