Chapter 10: Defying The Drill

Activity Log: Grand Army of The Republic, 501st Legion

Situation: General Skywalker has received a distress signal from Aayla Secura at Ba Sing Se that a large contingency of enemy troops is approaching the wall, and they are backed up by a massive siege engine.

Mission: The Avatar, his allies and the 501st must speed to Ba Sing Se and reinforce the 327th and their Earth Kingdom allies.

Execution: General Skywalker, Commander Tano, and the Avatar will infiltrate the inside of the drill and take it down from within while Captain Rex and Toph lead the 501st troops outside.

Location: Republic Venator Iago

Time: Two months since the Battle of the North Pole; two days after the expedition at the library.

"What is it, Commander?!" Aayla Secura shouted as she ran up to Commander Bly in the trench beneath the Outer Wall.

"Over there, General!" Commander Bly replied, pointing out towards the massive open plain and handing her his macro binoculars. "We've picked up a large number of contacts, but it seems there is also a large war machine backing them up! Something bigger than fifty, maybe even a hundred MTTs!"

The Twi'lek Jedi Master was bewildered and raised the Commander's macro binoculars to her eyes and zoomed in to the area he was pointing at. At first, she saw nothing. However, she sensed a great disturbance in the Force and kept looking.

Then she saw it.

A massive, rotating metal circle materialized out of the enormous dust cloud it was creating, and at first Aayla could not make it out. Then she noticed how the circle became sharper as it went into a sharp point, and then she saw the AAT's and Fire Nation tanks on either side of it. Putting her free hand to the ground, she reached out with the Force and felt an alarming rumbling across the earth as the giant metal behemoth advanced towards their position.

Her eyes grew wide.

"You're correct, Commander!" she exclaimed, handing him his macrobinoculars. "Notify all your officers and platoons, along with our Earth Kingdom allies! We must begin rallying our defenses at once!"

"Yes ma'am!" Commander Bly obeyed, and began keying his comlink and delivering instructions to his troops as he took off running down the right side of the trench. Master Secura, meanwhile, pulled out her holoprojector to contact Anakin Skywalker.

On the command bridge of the Drill, Princess Azula sat on her throne in the middle whilst her two friends Mai and Ty Lee sat on either side. Mai rested her head on her hand spinning her knife in boredom while Ty Lee stretched in her chair with a smile on her face. Asajj Ventress, slightly irritated but not caring enough to say anything, stood by the door to make sure no traitors attempted anything stupid.

Despite the merging of the Fire Nation and Droid Army troops, the bridge was manned entirely by Fire Nation crew, with only a few security battle droids in its halls for some support. Ventress couldn't help but be impressed, in a way. Despite the primitive technology of this world, they still managed to come up with many innovative and destructive war machines to subjugate their enemies. It seemed odd they fueled the Dark Side without being aware of the existence of the Force, but why should Ventress complain? As long as the Fire Nation was willing to help her and the Droid Army destroy the Jedi, everything would proceed smoothy.

Azula, for her part, had her own ambitions.

The war minister walked up to her throne and bowed. "All troops are in position and covering our advance, Your Highness," he reported. "We should be making contact with the enemy forces soon."
