Chapter 22: E-Day

Activity Log: Grand Army of the Republic, Joint Invasion Force (GAR, Earth Kingdom, Southern Water Tribe)

Situation: The Fire Nation capital is ripe for the taking. The genocide of the Air Nomads and the ravaging of the Earth Kingdom and its citizens shall be repaid in blood.

Mission: To storm the shores of the Fire Nation, overwhelm their defenses, break through the Fire Nation troops during the solar eclipse, and end the century long conflict once and for all.

Execution: Avatar Aang and his friends, backed by Jedi Generals Kenobi, Skywalker, and Commander Tano will fly to the Fire Lord's palace on Appa along with the Kyoshi Warriors, Clone Force 99, and Delta Squad. While they do their part to neutralize the Fire Lord plus his defenses in the palace, the troops of the Grand Army of The Republic, Earth Kingdom, and Southern Water Tribe will storm the designated beaches Grange, Juniper, and Shield to take control of the Fire Nation capital.

Location: Coastline of the Fire Nation Capital

Time: 26 weeks since the Battle of the North Pole

The following is a first-hand account of E-Day (Eclipse Day), also known as the Day of The Black Sun by some locals in the system where this invasion took place. By request of the Sergeant Major of the Clone Army, Sergeant Major Cunningham, and approval of the Jedi Council, the Coruscant Galactic Office of Public Affairs has released this account to the public, so that they may know the extent to which the ideologies of the Confederacy of Independent Systems has wreaked havoc on the Republic and systems within its jurisdiction.

The account is taken from the journal of 501st clone trooper Private Sullivan, an infantry rifleman in Fox Company, 3rd Platoon, 501st Legion.

The account is wrought with vivid, intense descriptions of the brutality of combat, the sacrifice of our brave troopers and their allies, and widespread destruction.

I clutch my DC-15 blaster rifle in my hands, gripping it with an aggressive fury I've felt before. The newly issued bayonet glistens under the polished black barrel; apparently, High Command saw it fitting for us to be gifted with bayonets now that our enemies are more than just droids. It has only been one week since I graduated from the Clone Army Basic Training Course on Kamino, and yet here I am about to storm the shores of a distant enemy that has aligned itself with our foes!

The transport ship rocks from side to side as we speed through the water; we got past the Gates of Azulon easy enough with our gunships and starfighters, but the vulture droids stationed there did not go down without a fight! I know that we have the numbers on our side when our Earth Kingdom allies are factored in. Nevertheless, I have to fight to push the dread hanging over my mind like a blasted Kowakian Monkey Lizard pestering one for a treat.

I run through the briefing again in my mind: I am part of the force which has been delegated to land on Shield Beach, so called because it is shielded by an outer wall that touches the seafloor that we must breach before we can reach the shore. Among our force, there are five (frankly primitive) submarines designed by a mechanist native to this system, fifty Earth Kingdom Navy ships of varying classes—mainly battleships and frigates—seventy-five IT-X Republic Fighter Tanks, sixty SA-TTM99 (Speeding Aquatic Troop Transport) transport speeders (carrying about forty troopers each), and an air support element comprised of eighty gunships, seventy starfighters and sixty-five bombers.
