━━007,
and slowly counting down my body weight, i'm tired!
Life as a kook on the island of Kildare was━ to put quite simply━ a fucking joke. Of course, nobody had ever had the courage to admit it, or well, because reality had it, Adalaine was the only one who had her eyes open wide enough to recognize the truth to being rich.Evil.
Corruption.
Those two words swam through Adalaine's mind like a plague that refused to surrender, because she knew well enough that in order to get to the top, one must tear everyone else down.
It's stupid, and it's selfish, and goddamn, it's utterly immoral.
But that's life.
It was like countries claiming territories. Think about it! The great powers of the earth waging war on the weak, claiming land that was never theirs and leaving behind what? Deaths to be ignored.
Being rich was the same. It came with stealing from those who deserved better, and cheating off people who were losing in the first place. Being rich wasn't a luxury at all. It wasn't paradise. It was far from. Excessive wealth is an inherently bad thing, and something only evil and corrupt people achieve.
So it was no surprise that Amelie Airoldi was one of the top elites on the island. And it was certainly no surprise that she threw people to the bottom when they risked her success. Life on Kildare was filled with people wanting to be perfect. But no one quite hit that level where Amelie stood━━ at the fucking top, shoulders back and chin lifted high. Because Amelie was a fucking bitch, but she was perfect in the eyes of almost everyone
It's been known that most material possessions don't make people happier. In reality, it's just spending time with people! That drive happiness. And so, that's why Adalaine let out a bitter laugh as they drove in Normand's Bentley Mulsanne the two minutes to the Cameron's residence. Where the patio was decked out with twinkly lights and the table was already completed with their Versace dinnerware set.
Now listen, a joint dinner between the Airoldi and Cameron was anything but unheard of on Figure Eight. Hell, on occasion, people were desperate to be their plus ones, wanting in on the elite life that many, even rich kooks couldn't reach without the help of Ward Cameron or Amelie Airoldi. But trust the youngest Airoldi, they were not enjoyable. In fact, if Adalaine had known hours ago, that she'd be sitting in between Rafe and Sarah Cameron at dinner, well, she would've stayed under the tree by the lighthouse to get arrested.
It was summer, but she decided on a long white sleeve shirt that had a slight dip on her chest. The skirt was white with small red detailing━━if she was correct, her color palette was spot on to what rose preferred when they had joint family dinners. And now, sitting on their lavish outdoor patio furniture at tannyhill, she felt as though the skirt was too short and her shirt too tight. Rafe had taken the spot next to her, not even trying to limit his wandering eyes.
