There is all the difference in the world between brave and foolhardy.
Adalaine has found a comfortable life which lives at the intersection of needing adventure and feeling shy. And now, as they are sitting in the broken-down van outside of the Crain house with Pogues and Sarah Cameron, she can't help but feed off the energy and feel hungry for adventure.
Adalaine was excited to help her friends, but after laying her eyes on the outside of the house that belonged to an alleged axe murderer, she felt her enthusiasm decrease ever so slightly. But fortunately (or perhaps unfortunately), the voice of John B's disrupts her running mind.
"I wanna say thank you, guys, seriously. It means a lot to me that you're here tonight,"
"Always," Kie says.
"Of course Bandana boy," Adalaine says with a genuine smile.
"Of course man," Pope says, leaning over to do his handshake with John B.
Jj threw the rope over his left shoulder with a look of annoyance across his face. "Alright, enough of this circle jerk shit. We done? Can we go do this?"
"Patience sharkboy," the brunette teases, but takes his hand anyway to hop out of the van. The rest of the crew quickly following after.
"Can't you feel it Nia?" Jj asks, wrapping an arm around her. "We're about to be filthy rich,"
"Hell yeah we are. Let's get that wheat in the water," Pope says, joining the conversation.
"Weed?" Jj asks, already losing his small amount of focus. "I'm up for weed,"
"Wheat," Pope corrects. "I said wheat,"
"Weed is later," Adalaine suggests. "When we get back? You know- we could- de-stress,"
"Love to hear it Nia," Jj exclaims, squeezing her close and placing a quick kiss on her temple, before letting his arm fall to his side.
"After you," Kiara motions to Sarah. The brunette stays standing next to the blond boy as she watches Sarah jump over the wall. Instinctively Adalaine grabs Jj's hand as her heart rate begins to pick up.
It took a few moments of convincing, but the brunette eventually lets go of the blond and he quickly hops over the wall, calling out a quiet "all good," to ease the girl's anxiety. Then, with a boost from Pope, Adalaine gets over the wall and Jj is there to lessen the jump down. "Told you Nia," he whispers as they wait for the two other boys, "I'm your guy,"
The six teenagers walk as quietly as they can to the house, they got a mere hundred yards from the house, the entire front yard lights up with sensor lights. Adalaine didn't even have a moment to panic before Jj quickly tackles her to the ground, covering her body with his own, but was careful enough to put his hand on the back of her head.
