━━012,
close my eyes, so i won't see what i've done wrong!
The young Airoldi girl barely had a second off the boat before she realized her shift would start in ten minutes. Luckily, the dock and The Wreck weren't too far away from each other - so Adalaine utters a quick goodbye and rushes off towards her shift. She heard Kiara call after her, promising to pick her up in five hours when it was over, and with a small wave over her shoulder in response, she was off.
Adalaine doesn't stop to think that maybe it would've been easier if she asked for a ride from one of the boys ━━who would've happily done so if she'd requested it ━━but her feet move so quickly that she's at The Wreck in no time, panting slightly as she scrambles for her apron and glances at the clock to see that there were five minutes to spare.
She takes the moment to catch a breath, the ache in her lungs gradually disappearing as she ties the strings around her waist with trembling fingers before she takes the hairband around her wrist to gather her hair into a messy bun against her nape.
"Sorry for being late," Adalaine says to Mike.
"You're not late Addy!" he says with a small smile, but her apology was appreciated regardless. After knowing her for years, he knew that Adalaine was almost always ten minutes early each shift.
"Right," she nods, heat rushing to her cheeks.
"Good," Mike says before waving towards the tables. "Now go on, the tables don't wait themselves,"
The brunette spends the next hour waiting on the tourists, sending soft smiles and small chatter when she deems it necessary. And though her thoughts raced with questions and uncertainty of what happened on the boat - and the look of pain running on John B's features the entire way back, she finds herself grateful for the distraction.
In past experiences, Adalaine knew to put her emotions aside, or rather, bury them at the bottom of the ocean or toss them across the world.
But listen, the young Airoldi girl knew that bottling her emotions up and doing her best to ignore them, wasn't a good idea. And she also knew that throwing herself into work, a way to stand on her feet for an eight hours shift, and to handle food but not eat it, wasn't a healthy coping mechanism. But frankly, she didn't know what else to do.
So, with a smile, Adalaine straightens herself up, tugging the stray hair back behind her ear and promises the touron that their meal will be out shortly. Unfortunately for her, the promise feels lost as she turns around to see Rafe, Beau and Topper practically seething in anger. The empty glass she was carrying begins to feel like a hundred pound weight as they burned holes into her.
Well, Topper was the only one with steam coming out of his ears while the other two Kooks look smug and ready to cause a stir, which makes her heart stop, everything goes unsteady in the brunettes chest as she knows that when they get that look in their eyes, trouble was bound to follow.
