━━

in which a girl from figure eight spends the summer tripping over her shoelaces, meeting a new group of friends, and her biggest fear coming alive━━not everything is as picture-perfect as it seems!

or

in which Adalaine battles with herself, a group of pogues and her family as the events of the summer reveal hidden treasures, stories and so much more. some relationships begin to strain whereas some, inevitably grow closer.

━━

From the outside, Adalaine was a force to be reckoned with! Unfortunately, things don't always reflect as they should, because, from the inside, she was just a sixteen-year-old that yearned for love, respect, affection ━━anything.

Because in the Airoldi household, emotions were critiqued and fake smiles were obligatory. She finds herself often working long hours at The Wreck or drifting out into the open water on her surfboard to make time move faster. But unfortunately, as the sun dips into the salty Atlantic ocean, she has to return home, and the minute she steps into the Airoldi's all-too-expensive-house, a flip switches inside of her. The stunning, genuinely effortless smile on her face would begin to weigh her down. And poor Adalaine would have to remind herself to take each step. To get past mother, quietly and quickly, who is inevitably weighing out her vegetables for the week.

four carrots, seven cucumbers, eight beets.

right foot, left foot, right foot. quietly and quickly.

Until she carries herself to her room, a breath of relief would soon flood her veins. The feeling would be surreal, like when you jump into the ocean at the end of a hot day, it jolts the body. And most importantly,  it reminds Adalaine that she's still alive.

a hand to her heart: one, two, three.

Because god damn it! Her mother is overbearing, her brother is shitty, her step-father is absent-minded, and the guilt of being a kook is a little too much.

But, hopefully she can find something (or someone) to give her the support she so desperately needs ━━and deserves.
