"Everyone, put your hands above your head!" A soldier's voice echoed through the room. We obeyed, our hands reaching for the sky in unison.
"Close your eyes." His command was met with immediate compliance. We all fell silent, save for the rustling of uniforms and the occasional nervous cough.
His next instruction was for students with unnecessary belongings to step forward. We all remained still, no one daring to break the silence. "At ease," he barked, seemingly satisfied with our compliance. He then directed the teachers to inspect our bags.
Our class was fortunate. We managed to empty our bags quickly, avoiding any potential consequences. Class 3 wasn't as lucky. Ahn Kyung Min was caught by their teacher, with a pack of cigarettes hidden in a Pringles box. He was reprimanded on the spot, and I couldn't help but wonder what his punishment would be.
"Class, follow me," our principal said, leading us to our dorm.
It was fortunate that the girls' dormitory was all on one floor, but we were still separated by class. I couldn't room with Ja Rim and the others. I sighed, wishing for the hundredth time that I was in the same class as them. The girls' floor was chaotic, with each girl fighting over which room they would stay in.
Finally, I found a nice room with only three other students. Adding me, we would make it four. The room was surprisingly spacious, so it didn't feel cramped. I put my bag down and sat on the floor. Even though I hadn't done much during the bus ride, I still felt tired from sitting for hours.
My phone vibrated, indicating that I had received a message. It was from Kyung Woo, asking if I had seen Joo Young. I replied that I had last seen him at the court on our way to the dorm. Worry started to build up within me. Before I could leave the room to look for him, an announcement was made, stating that attendance would be taken since someone was missing.
It had to be Gong Joo Young.
I joined the other students in the hallways, waiting for the teachers to take our attendance. After standing there for a few minutes, a soldier informed us that it was getting late and we would be eating dinner. We moved according to our class and I met up with Ja Rim, Min Ji, and Ah Ram. We placed our orders and sat down next to the boys, who were already eating. Except for Kyung Woo, who was busy dialing Joo Young's number.
"Kim Baeng, didn't he say anything to you? You're in the same class," Kyung Woo asked when his call went unanswered.
"I'm not sure. He was there when we were emptying our bags, but suddenly he disappeared," he replied.
"What about you?" Kyung Woo turned to me and asked. "He didn't tell you anything?" I shook my head.
"Surely he didn't go and buy alco-" Kyung Woo quickly covered Kyung Min's mouth with his hand. "Come on."
