I have a neighbor who's a police officer. He was nice to me. He sometimes checks my house to see if there's anything suspicious. I trust him as he's like a father to me.

One morning as I was walking home, I noticed my front door is open. I remembered my police neighbor is at his work. He will come home late. My fighter side woke up and encouraged me to check who broke into my house. I grab my spray and slowly entered my house without any noise.

"You're home. I made you dinner. I hope it's fine if I touched your supplies." The police officer said as he saw me.

"I thought you're having an overtime work? Thank you for the meal." I said.

"I will, I just checked on you but you aren't home yet when I came so I prepared dinner for you. Anyway I'll get going." He said and stood up, about to leave when he turned back his gaze at me.

"Always look your doors. Especially at the back gate. Don't open doors when someone knocks at night. Call Jerry if you find something weird. Always have your spray and the gun I gave you. Remember what I have teached you about self defense. Never come home at night alone." He said assuring me.

"Yes, I know. I will remember all you just said." I nod at him.

He smiled at me yet I sensed the sadness in his eyes.

"Remember I'm always here. I love you my child." Then he left.

After I finished eating the meal he did, a phone call came.

"Hello? Who's this?" I asked.

"Hi, It's me Jerry. I have a sad news for you. I want you to sit down and inhale, exhale." I did what he said.

I'm getting nervous.

"Open the television. Embrace yourself." He said.

'A police officer was found dead at the backyard of his house. A witness said that he saw him entering his neighbor's house, the owner of the house was still at her work that time. As the witness pass by the said house he noticed three human shadow at the window. It was a man's built. After a few walks from the house he heard a sound of a gun. Then the two men went out the house carrying a bag where they assumed the body was inserted there and transported it to the police officer's house.'

I turned off the television and called Jerry again.

"Tell me it's not Arthur. Please. He was just here a while ago. He even prepared me a dinner. I was just talking to him." I asked crying.

"I'm sorry Amanda, I'm on my way to your house. For now lock all your doors. I will call you when I arrive. Ask me a code and I'll say Arthur. Don't open when they don't answer if someone comes before me. Hold the gun Arthur gave you and the spray." He reminded me. I nod and immediately did what he said.

I sat down at the sofa crying and remembering what Arthur keeps on reminding me. All the memories we had keeps on flashing at my mind. Half an hour of crying I heard a knock. I ran going there and about to open when I remember what Jerry said.

I breathe heavily and prepared myself before speaking.

"Code?" I asked bravely.

"..." A few minutes passed but the person who knocks didn't answer.

On cue I pointed my gun at the door. I dialed Jerry's number, good thing he answered.

"Someone knocks at my front door." I whispered.

"Shit! I'm almost there. Hide somewhere." He said. I was about to go to my room when I remembered what Arthur said about hiding.

He made a secret room below the kitchen. The door was located at the sink. I immediately run to it and hid myself still being alert.

A moment later, I heard a footstep coming to my place. I pointed the gun to the door.

"Arthur." A man's voice said. Because of my trust issues, I dialed Jerry's phone first.

It rungs and I can hear it coming outside this room. I was waiting for him to answer but he didn't. I remained focus and calm.

Another footstep I heard coming to this direction. Then a gun shot was heard.

"Open up Amanda, It's me Jerry." I didn't believed.

"Code?" I asked.

The man chuckled and said "Arthur."

I opened the door and went out. But to my horror,

"Arthur died while protecting your house as he protects you too, Jerry died trying to protect you. Now you die while protecting yourself." He said and about to pull the trigger when a lazer pointed at his forehead, then a bullet hit him.

He immediately fell down dead. Jerry stood up thay made me scream because of shock.

"Oh I'm sorry Amanda, I didn't mean to scare you. But let's leave this house for now." He said and escorted me.

Arthur, the police officer I used to admire, died while protecting my home and me. Jerry, the police officer who was about to sacrifice himself just to protect and save me.

Not all police officers are bad and corrupt. Some of them are still decent so never judge a police officer based on what his/her co police officer did.
