The way things go ~~ a Antonio Dawson story

Candidate

I got up. I looked at my phone. 8:26. I went and got into the shower. I put on my work clothes with my squad coat the brushed my hair and did my makeup. I went out and woke up Antonio.

Antonio: Huh
Kendra: It's time to get up baby.

He groaned. I laid next to him.

Kendra: Why do you have to spoil me so much?
Antonio: What do you mean baby?

I held up my hand.

Kendra: Look at it.
Antonio: I like to treat you right.

He kissed me.

Kendra: I love you.
Antonio: I love you to.

We laid there for a while.

Kendra: Severide and I are going to the academy he'll be here at ten.
Antonio: what for?
Kendra: Possible candidate he wants under my wing.
Antonio: Oh.

I got up and went and made breakfast. We ate together then I put the leftovers away and the dishes in the sink. Then the doorbell rang. I went and opened it.

Severide: Ready?
Kendra: Yep.

Antonio came over and kissed me.

Antonio: Love you.
Kendra: Love you to.

I followed Severide to his car. We got in and went to the academy. We walked in. We walked to where he was.

Severide: Morning chief.
Chief Rands: Morning Kelly.

We went and stood by the truck.

Chief Rands: Today we have some visitors. Everyone meet Lieutenant Kelly Severide and Kendra Parker. They are from 51.  There observing who gets the first ever candidate spot on squad. So if you make it you better make a damn good firefighter from it. Test day. Get your gear ready.

They separated.

Severide: That's him.

He said pointing at the kid in the second column second row. I nodded. We watched and finally his turn came up. He was in and out within 5 minutes and 56 seconds.

Severide: Great job candidate.
Davis: Thanks lieutenant.

Soon they were all finished. They cleared out.

Chief Rands: What do you think?
Severide: He's got one hell of a future ahead of him.
Chief Rands: His ambition is phenomenal.
Severide: He's in.
Chief Rands: Great.
Severide: I'd like to speak with him.
Chief Rands: alright.

He went inside. Then five minutes later he came back out with the kid.

Chief Rands: Davis.
Davis: It's a pleasure to meet you.

He shook both of our hands.

Severide: Welcome to 51.
Davis: Thank you.

Severide nodded.

Severide: Just know it's not me your serving under its Kendra. She's the relief lieutenant. I won't make it to the next few shifts so she's Lieutenant. But even when I'm back you still report to her.
Davis: sounds good to me.
Severide: Nice to meet you.
Davis: Yeah you to.
Kendra: I'll see you tomorrow.
Davis: I'll be there.

I nodded and we left. We went to his car and he took me home.

Antonio: how'd it go?
Kendra: We have a candidate on squad and looks like I'll still be lieutenant when we get back. I guess Sevs not ready to come back yet.
Antonio: I get it.

We ate lunch then watched movies the rest of the day. When nighttime came around I went to bed.
