"I followed you here," the girl says and he furrows his eyebrows. "Why?" Donghyuck questions. "To thank you for saving me," she tells him.
"You already did," he stands up brushing his pants from any excess sand. "Just go home, it's late." Donghyuck walks away.
"Wait!" She calls out running up to him. "Give me your number. I'll pay you back with a meal."
"No, it's fine," he refuses, but she continues to insist. He heaves a sigh. "Just one meal and after that, you delete my number and forget about this."
"Okay! I'm Jiwoo by the way," she introduces herself and he nods. "Donghyuck." He hands her phone back and walks away.
"Can't you walk me home?" Jiwoo asks and he sighs. "It's already dark and by the time I get on the bus and then get home, it will be even darker."
"Okay okay," he agrees.
The walk to her house is quiet, Donghyuck didn't mind it but Jiwoo on the other hand was dying to ask tons of questions.
"How old are you?" She finally speaks up.
"Older than you," Donghyuck utters monotonously. Jiwoo puckers her bottom lip. "How much older?" she questions again.
"You're a senior in high school, right?" He asks and she nods. "I was one two years ago."
"So there isn't that much of a difference, can we be friends?" Jiwoo asks cheerfully.
"No," Donghyuck refuses and walks ahead of her. "You're so rude," she crosses her arms.
"Fine, let me ask you a question," he tells her and she nods. "What made you go to the rooftop?"
"And moving on to the next question," she puts on a fake smile. "You can ask me anything but that, it was just one vulnerable moment. I want to forget about it."
"One vulnerable moment that almost got you killed, I saw it. If I didn't get there on time, we wouldn't even be having this conversation," he raises his voice. A sudden feeling of grief pouring inside of him.
"But you got there and you saved me," Jiwoo chuckles nervously, confusion clear on her face because of his sudden outburst.
"But what if I wasn't there?" Realizing his behavior, he shuts his eyes letting out a deep sigh. "I'm sorry, I just...I don't know."
"It's fine," Jiwoo smiles reassuringly although she was still confused by his change in attitude.
The rest of the walk consisted of an extremely award silence that was suffocating Jiwoo inside. She wanted to talk to him as she wasn't a person of silence, however, she held back not wanting to disturb him any further.
"We're here."
Donghyuck looks up at the familiar neighborhood. His eyes roaming the place that he hasn't stepped foot in for a while.
Y/N's neighborhood.
"Jiwoo!" They both turn their heads to an elder woman. "Grandma, what are you doing outside?" Jiwoo asks holding onto her arms.
"It's you," the elder's feeble hand shakes as she points at Donghyuck. "You're Y/N's friend."
Recalling their former connection, Donghyuck smiles. "Oh, how have you been?" He bows his head politely.
"I've been getting older," she chuckles. "Did you come to see her?"
"Y/N? Is she back?" The boy widens his eyes as she nods her head.
"She came back not too long ago," the woman pats his shoulder. "She has gotten even more beautiful."
"Do you know where she is?" He asks and she sighs.
"No, I forgot to ask her where she would be staying," she looks down wearing an apologetic frown.
"Oh," he sighs, slightly disappointed. "I'll just have to wait until fate brings us back together." He chuckles.
The elder smiles with her eyes, "You'll find your way back to each other."
"Wait, who is this Y/N we're talking about?" Jiwoo asks entirely confused.
"Someone," Donghyuck smiles. "I should get going now. Goodnight." He bows his head before turning on his heels and walking away.
"Woah, that's the first time I saw him smile, you have a cute smile," he hears Jiwoo yell aloud and he shakes his head letting out a small chuckle.
. . .
Arriving at his house, he was greeted by Hyun. He ruffled the dog's hair and walked into the kitchen. On the dinner table lay a small note. He took the note and read it.
There is food in the fridge, heat it up before you eat. Don't stay up waiting for me, I'll be back home from work late. - Mom
Donghyuck sighs, before walking over to the fridge and taking the food placing it into the microwave.
While waiting for the food to heat, he took out his journal and started writing about his day. It was a daily thing he did, he wrote about his visions and any other stuff relating to his ability that could possibly help him in the near future.
The ding from the microwave interrupted his focus and he stood up to grab the food before quickly going back to writing.
Once again, the boy was interrupted, this time by the ringing of the doorbell. Confused by the sudden visit, he looked at the clock which displayed the time 9:45 pm.
"Hello-" The boy's word trails off as he opens the door. He stares wide-eyed at his guest.
"Jeon Y/N."
"Lee Donghyuck," she smiles upon seeing the person she missed the most. A small chuckle leaves his mouth as he steps closer to her and pulls her into a tight hug.
"I thought you would never come back," he lets out a sigh of utter relief.
"I missed you so much," she mutters against his chest, tightening her embrace around his waist.
"Don't ever leave again," Donghyuck pulls away enough for him to be face to face with her. He couldn't help the smile from forming on his lips as he realized that she was standing in front of him.
He was happy, the happiest he's ever been. There was no doubt that in the world of 7 billion people, she was his source of happiness.
"I won't," Y/N smiles before placing her head back on his shoulder. And there it was, the feeling of home that she only felt with him.
It was the feeling she missed the most during her time away and the desperation for that feeling is what eventually brought her back into his loving arms.
