Impulsively, Donghyuck got out of the car slamming the door shut. A gasp left Y/N's lips as he forcefully clenches his hands around Jihoon's collar.
"You killed my dad." His voice comes out smaller than his actions.
Jihoon lets himself be manhandled as he recalls the young and timid boy that Donghyuck once was. "I'm sorry," the older man apologizes.
Donghyuck's lips quiver and tears well up in his eyes, "Sorry won't bring him back."
Y/N was still processing the entire situation. She gets out of the car and walks towards the three. She noticed the hurt in her boyfriend's eyes and the lack in her father's. Her mother held her head low in shame.
And then the dots connect in her head.
"This is what your vision was about..." Y/N looks at him. Tears burning her eyes as they begged to be let out. "This is the reason."
Donghyuck releases the older man. His scowl softens as he turns to look at her. "No. I told you I would never do that to you," he denies her words.
"Don't try hiding your anger, Hyuck," the girl's voice breaks as she speaks. "Even if you deny it now, eventually you will hate me."
Donghyuck stays silent, maybe she was right. It was possible that his mind could change, but right now, he was sure that he didn't want to lose her.
"I could never hate you, Y/N," he tells her, walking closer to her and holding her trembling hand in his. "Let's talk about this at home."
Home. The word sounds weird to her now that she knows the awful truth. She doesn't belong there anymore, or perhaps she never belonged.
. . .
The car ride to the house was silent. Y/N stared out the window while Donghyuck focused on the road. At first, she was hesitant to leave with him but ended up doing so anyway since she needed to pack her stuff. She hoped his mother wasn't there, as she would be too ashamed to face her.
"I didn't come to stay," Y/N breaks the silence first, "I'm going to grab my stuff and leave."
"What do you mean?" Donghyuck glances at her, his brows furrowed together.
"I don't belong there anymore. I never did and I also don't belong with you," she tells him, avoiding his eyes.
Donghyuck pulls up into the house's driveway and turns his body towards her. "Look at me." She ignores him. "Y/N, please." His middle and forefinger gently turn her head. "This whole thing hasn't changed the way I feel about you."
"That's because you don't let yourself hate me, Donghyuck!" Y/N raises her voice. "My fath- that man killed your dad. Because of him, you grew up without a father. And you have to suffer through this unusual ability that scars you every single day. How are you fine with that?!"
"I'm not fine with it!" He yells back, taking a deep breath he continues, "But I choose not to dwell and suffer over the past. Sure, your father killed my dad but that has nothing to do with you. It's not your fault."
"Well, I'm not like you, Lee Donghyuck. I will never forget this. Every time I look into your eyes, all I'm going to see is a seven-year-old crying and begging for his father's life and it will haunt me for the rest of my life." She wipes away her tears and gets out of the car.
Donghyuck gets out as well, following her into the house. "So what are going to do now, huh? Are you going to run away, like last time? Like you always do whenever something doesn't go your way?" He snaps at her.
Y/N stops in her tracks, her feet planted to the wooden floor. She glances over her shoulder, hurt by his words, "It's what I do best."
Rushing into the room, she grabs her clothes and tosses them into the suitcase. Her teeth nibbling on her bottom lip to stifle any cries.
Donghyuck simply watched her from the doorframe. He wanted to stop her, make her stay, but she was stubborn.
Placing the suitcase on its four wheels, Y/N walks past Donghyuck and to the front door. A familiar feeling rushed inside her. Guilt. She felt the same way when she left that day three years ago.
Her hand found the doorknob, however, didn't turn it. She wanted to look back at him, just one glance, but she knew that if she did, she would run back into his arms.
"Tell your mom, I'm thankful for everything she did for me," she muttered loud enough for him to hear. She turns the doorknob with one hand and pulls her suitcase with the other. Her heart clenches in her chest with every step she takes away from him.
Donghyuck snaps out of his thoughts and follows after the love of his life. His arms encircle her smaller build.
"Let me go," Y/N pushes him away with the little strength she had left inside of her. But he only holds her tighter, as if she might slip away any instant.
"I won't let you go, not again," he mumbles into her hair, caressing it tenderly. "I love you, nothing will ever change that. So please, stay."
Y/N melts in his arms, she hugs him back placing her head at the crook of his neck, "This isn't fair for you."
"None of this is fair for either of us." He kisses the top of her head closing his eyes as he lets his tears drop. "But let's not let it separate us. I need you in my life, Y/N, now more than ever."
Tears spill from Y/N's eyes like a waterfall, his words were supposed to make her feel good but they only made her heart ache more. "I'm sorry, Hyuck. I'm so sorry," she cries into his embrace.
"It's not our fault." He assures her, holding her as tight as he could. Y/N pulls away, enough to look at his face. Her trembling hands cup his face as she stares at his swollen eyes.
"I'm going to make things right."
