Little zaps of pain shot through Dona's body while she ran, her legs burned from the constant movement. The Baudelaire's running beside her felt the same, throwing their hands about wildly and exclaiming every moment when they felt another painful sting.

"What stops them?" Violet cried, running down the icy mountain followed closely by Klaus and Dona.

"Smoke!" Dona and Klaus shouted loudly over the buzzing.

"Smoke? How are we supposed to get smoke out here?!" Violet said

"I don't know!" Klaus whined

They turned into woods, still followed by the swarm, dodging trees left and right. Though this was a painful experience, Dona felt a sense of comfort from the drama, it reminded her of missions with her mother, oh how she missed her.

Klaus and Violet stopped suddenly,"What the hell are you doing?! They're coming closer you idiots!" Dona cried, stopped a few feet in front of them.

"Look over there!" Violet pointed to a cave

They started running again towards it, seeing a stream of smoke billowing from its edges.

"The snow gnats stopped" Violet pointed out.

"No shit?" Dona sarcastically replied, but smiled after to convey humor, she couldn't have the Baudelaire's not liking her, for now, they're all she has.

"There must be something inside that scared them" Klaus suggested.

"Yeah, you see the smoke" Dona gestured to the smoke around them.

"Whatever, let's hope there's no hibernating animal" Violet shivered as they carefully walked toward into the looming darkness of the cave.

"Oh no" Klaus sighed as a figure walked forward, to reveal a girl. One with wide eyes, tight red ringlets on her head, and a large puffy pink dress coat.

"Hello, cakesniffers" she smiled.

Dona could barely contain herself, she thought this was hilarious. A slight snicker escaped her lips before the girl turned to her,"Whats so funny, cakesniffer!"

Dona didn't even respond she was to busy laughing to herself, making futile attempts to stop herself.

"Go away, cakesniffers! This is a private cave!" The girl spat toward them.

"You think I give a shi-" Dona began, but was cut off when Violet elbowed her ribs, giving her a death glare to shut up.

"Carmelita, who are you talking to?" A woman called from behind them, approaching in a blue coat and beret

"They're in our cave, so obviously they're cakesniffers" she said, anger lacing her voice,"Wait. You're those orphans from Prufrock Prep, who lost your home in a fire and then Vice Princie expelled you!"

"No, we've never been to Prufrock Prep" Violet lied, and badly.

"He did not expel us!" Klaus denied, letting his emotions take over and forget lying about there identities.

"I knew it! You're the Baudelaire's!" Carmelita accused.

"I hope not! I read about those terrible children in the Daily Punctillio. It said they are murders and arsonists, they started that fire that's still raging across the hinterlands" the woman gasped.

"You really believe that batshit crazy newspaper?" Dona scoffed, sticking up for her newfound friends.

"Watch your mouth young lady!" The woman scolded, to which Dona rolled her eyes.
