It was exhilarating. The rush of flying down the slope and the wind flying through Dona's hair. The only thing ruining this spectacular moment of hers was the shouts and screams of the others.
Dona hadn't felt such a rush for ages. All the excitement of the events had all boiled down to this, it was her perfect adventure.
Mysteriously disappearing from an abandoned house and ending up on a mountain, joining a Snow Scout troop of brats, finding her mother but leaving her again, finding a VFD hideout but it was burnt to a crisp! Facing her greatest rivals atop a mountain holding a mere baby hostage, watching said Scout troop get carried away by eagles, and now this, flying down a very steep slope on a rickety old sled.
All of it was a thrill for Dona, horrendous and terrible or course, but it was the most excitement she had felt in ages.
A large wave of snow overcame the sled as it finished it careen to the ground. The sled veered off and began down a narrow stream through the snowy woods.
"I'm glad to have you back Sunny!" Violet exclaimed over the rattle of the sled over the frozen stream
"Me too, but we're not safe yet!" Klaus called
"This is really sweet and all, but can we focus?!" Dona shouted
"Quigley, does your map say where this stream is headed?"
The rustling of his map of the sled sounded in Dona's ears and she leaned over Quigley's shoulder to see his map "Streams run into large bodies of water, like rivers, and rivers lead into-"
"AAH" A short scream left Dona and Quigley's mouth as they looked up just in time to see a branch ahead, one that would cause them a whole other world of problems.
"Quigley! Dona!" Violet shouted back at the two, who were currently suspended by a branch in the air.
"Violet!" The two shouted back.
"Quigley! Dona!" Violet repeated
"Violet!" Quigley shouted again, dragging it out for dramatic effect.
"Quigley!"
"Last Safe Place! I'll find you at the Last Safe Place."
"Quigley, we're officially and royally screwed." Dona sighed, dropping from the branch and onto the ground, handing her head between her knees.
"Yeah, no shit, Dona."
"Quigley! Language! I am shocked and appalled at you young man!" Dona joked lamely, trying to lighten the mood of the situation.
"Well. What do we do?"
"Just start walking i suppose."

The day turned to night, the chill that had set in sent shivers up Dona and Quigley's spine every minute or so.
The two held to each other closely for lack of warm, Dona had originally been using the spyglass to heat them, but against the icy chill of the mountain, the glass alone did close to nothing for the two.
"Quigley," Dona panted through breaths that let out a cloud of steam every time she exhaled,"It's nearly midnight, we've got to rest."
"Yeah, but where? This entire mountain in covered in nothing but snow and trees! How could we possibly find a safe place to sleep! Not to mention wild animals and creatures that could us very appealing."
"I was hoping for some ideas dipshit, that's why i asked." Dona groaned
"Well I haven't got any!" Quigley snapped
Dona's face fell to look down at her shoes that were barely visible in the moonlight.
"God, Dona i'm sorry, I didn't mean that-" Quigley began apologizing
"I'm sorry too Quigley, i've been seriously nonchalant about this and i've been rude too." Dona lifted her head slightly to look to the eyes of the boy.
In that moment nothing but the soft chitters and chirps of animals sounded in the woods. The crunch of snow beneath their feet had stopped as the two looked into each other's eyes. So full of fear, so weary, and most of all, so full of admiration. These two kids, these two idiotic kids, had fallen head over heels for one another.
"How could I have been so stupid." Dona whispered, barely audible to even herself,"Quigley, I think I love you. When i look at you my chest tightens up so much i can hardly breath a-and I both hate and love that feeling so much because i knew there was nothing i could ever do about it but it was like this pulling, this unstoppable pulling from me to you that was drawing me into you. And i'm so sorry to lay this on you because I-I don't know if you feel the same, and this is the worst possible place to tell you all of this, but i just don't want to hold it in anymore an-"
Quigley cut her off, easing a hand slowly to rest on Dona's face, he smiled," Dona, I think I love you too."
Their faces inches closer together, the moments passing by the slow motion as the anticipation grew larger and larger, it had been such a long time coming, and here it was. Dona had to been wanting him for so long and here it was, it was perfect, nearly too perfect, but it seemed as though nothing could go wrong, when somehow, it did.
A loud crash, followed by another sounded through the air.
"What the fuck was that!" Dona cried, jumping apart from Quigley, still gripping his hand so tightly it was making his fingers go numb.
"I don't know just run!" He yelped in return, turning alongside Dona to run.
Their legs pumped step after step as the continued to run through the trees, narrowly avoiding branches and boulders along their way.
It was chaos, pure chaos. The loud snaps of branches and tree trunks behind them kept their legs moving faster and faster with every step.
The chaos became less, and less, and less, before a loud honking came from right in front of them, one with large yellow eyes that stared into their soul, and a... windshield?
A car. It was a car. A little brown car with two boxes strapped to the top.
The world had slowed again. The car halted to a stop, Dona and Quigley got into the car after a few moments of talking with the people in the car, who turned out to be a newlywed couple who were coming home from their honeymoon which they spent skiing in the mountains, and the entire ride was practically silence, just the realization of how entirely fucked the two of them were. Sitting in a strangers car, no idea what to do next, just a destination in mind.
