They jumped into action. With Violets hair tied back and Dona's still flying about wildly, they prepared.

The kids slaved away, transforming old, rusted, busted pieces of junk became what would support them on their long trek up the frozen waterfall ahead.

"It's time for a durability test." Violet dramatically looked up from the boot, covered in wire and attached to a burnt fork. The contraption looked a bit dodgy, a bit strange, but Dona really couldn't care less at this point. Her life was a mess anyway, being thrown from place to place and person to person, not a speck of stability was to be found.

She walked over to a burnt post and slammed the times of the fork into it,"It works," she smiled up at Quigley and Dona, who stood beside each other at the table.

"Good shit!" Dona clapped her hand on Quigley's back smiling.

Violet ripped the boot from the post and laid it back on the table,"The waterfall fall will be slippery. The times on these forms will be able to dig into the ice." She explained to the two.

"Uh.... I think you should see this!" Klaus exclaimed, rounding the corner with a book or sorts in his hands,"I was searching the selves to see if any of the books survived the fire and I found this in the poetry section." He held the book out for the others to see. It was covered in a thick layer of ash only showing letters that spelled 'odes'.

"Odes?" Quigley read in confusion. Klaus quickly brushed off the ash and held it back out again to reveal the title Codes.

"Codes." Violet read

"Oh, that makes more sense," Dona laughed to herself.

"According to this book VFD had a secret way to leave coded messages in case of fires. There might be a message hidden now," Klaus explained

"Then somebody needs to find it. Quigley, how are you at cracking codes?" Violet questioned

"I can try, but I'm better at reading maps."

"Dona?"

"Oh I'm rubbish, I'm more into the whole breaking noses thing."

"You're both better at climbing too. I saw you in the Vertical Flame Diversion. You can help by saving Sunny. I'll stay here and see what I can learn." Klaus decided

"Are you sure?" Violet and Dona asked in concern, they all knew how concerned he was for Sunny's safety, and he was putting a lot of trust in them to bring her back.

"You invented a way up the mountain. Now it's my turn to use my talents." He confirmed

"If Sunny's up there we'll bring her back." Quigley said, a determined look painted across his face

"Ditto."

"I know you will," Klaus smiled and walked off

"Thank you for volunteering." Violet thanked the two

After preparing themselves, the three approached the mountain, candle holders in hand, fork boots on their feet.

Dona felt like an idiot, but her dignity was out the window at that point, so it didn't really matter to her, instead, she went to humor for the odd predicament,"Man, these boots would make great weapons, y'know? Stab stab, amirite?" She awkwardly laughed. Neither Violet or Quigley gave any acknowledgment,"Jeez, tough crowd."

"We'll use these to pull ourselves up and test for thin ice so we don't fall." Violet explained after a moment of painfully awkward silence.

"Not falling is an excellent plan."

Dona dramatically gasped,"You made a joke! I'm so proud of you!" She giggled and pinched Quigley's face like a mother to her child.

He pushed her off, trying to hide a smile,"Ah shuddup."

They silently approached the waterfall, craning their necks to look to the top.

"Are you ready?" Violet asked

"If we wait until we're ready...." Quigley began

"We'll be waiting for the rest of our lives." The girls finished. The three nodded and began to climb.

After a solid hour of climbing, the threes limbs had grown numb, the breaths loud and strained, and their hopes lower then Dona's will to live.

Violet and Quigley's grunts sounded from below Dona, who was a solid ten feet above them. Her past training with VFD and her mothers incessant need for her daughter to be strong and well trained, had come in handy once again. It wasn't as easy as it used to be, the whole climbing thing, she hadn't gone in a mission, much less trained in what had to have been four months at that point.

Violets grunts became louder and Dona looked down feverently in worry,"Y'all okay?" Dona called wearily

"We should rest." Quigley called back up

"I see two ledges." Dona said, looking above her. One was small and ten feet away, the other was larger and twenty feet away.

Quigley followed her gaze,"It's not much further!"

The three had been split into Violet being lower, and Quigley resting beside Dona above her.

"Did I tell you that I saw my mom?" Dona quietly asked, not tearing her gaze from the skyline.

"No! What happened with that? When? Where?" Quigley questioned

Dona just laughed,"I'll tell you later, I'm not sure a frozen waterfall is exactly the place."

"You better." He shot her a warning glance

"God it's so lovely out here." Dona said in breathy voice, looking out toward the mountains before them.

"Very lovely indeed." Quigley quietly agreed, turning his head toward Dona.

There it was! That feeling again! One that made Dona want to both throw up, pass out, and kiss him. Maybe not kiss him, but that feeling where you want to be close to somebody, that feeling where your face gets hot and your stomach flutters, that one.

Dona turned toward him biting her lip,"Remember our agreement?"

"Yeah..."

"I don't like it very much."

"Me neither."

And that was it, the rest is history, you know the dril- I'm kidding. The two sat in silence, both internally screaming and there cheeks flushing deeper then they already had been from the wind.

Dona was at peace.
