☾☀︎︎☽The young brunette was sprawled across her bed as the sun shone through the thin curtains framing the window. Dona scrunched up her nose at the bright light that had awoken her from her deep and mostly happy slumber. She grumbled under her breath at the prospect of being woken as she slid out from under her warm covers, missing the warmth the plush comforter brought her. Upon looking in the mirror that resided in her room Dona brushed her fingers through her knotted brown tresses and stretched her eyes out making stupid faces at herself in the mirror bringing a smile to her lips. She grabbed a fresh change of clothes, being simple high waisted cigarette pants and a black sweater tucked in. Her hair was brushed and pinned back to remain out of her face. She examined her face as she grimaced at the small red bumps beginning to appear on her face. She really despised her acne, everyone does, but she really couldn't stand it and vigorously washed her face every evening, so vigorously in fact it probably didn't help all that much.
She slipped out of her door and crept out on the front stoop of the manor to have a cigarette, which she thought to be fitting with her cigarette pants. A small cloud of smoke blew from her mouth into the chilled morning air and thought of what she should do that day. Her days had become very mundane and boring seeing as she didn't have much contact with VFD and couldn't do missions all that well on her own.
She stamped the stub of the cigarette with her shoe and kicked it into the bushes beside the door to hide the evidence of her bad habit. She closed the door slowly and ambled about the house, thinking of the former night with Quigley. What had it meant? She tried to convince herself it was just a heat of the moment type of thing and it didn't really mean anything, it was a pity kiss. She was fine with this but felt a sorrowful pit in her stomach, secretly hoping it wasn't just out of pity for her loss.
After waltzing up and down the hallways of the Quagmire mansion, empty of movement seeing as the triplets were still sleeping in their rooms, Dona had found herself settled in the small sun room a few doors down from her own. Dona pulled out her book, which happened to be "Little Women", and flipped through the pages in futile attempts to find her page, silently cursing herself for never using bookmarks.
A soft ringing was heard throughout the house that started Dona at first, only to realize it was only the phone in the foyer. She rushed down the stairs hoping she had not missed to call, to her pleasure, she didn't. "Hello, this is the Quagmire residence, Donatella Snicket speaking." Dona said sweetly into the phone, ditching her usually tough and boyish vocalism. "Snicket?" An unknown but familiar voice quickly replied. Dona made a duh face to herself, annoyed with having to repeat herself, "Yes, Donatella Snicket, who is this?" She said, trying to keep her patience. "This is Jacquelyn. We may have lead on your mothers whereabouts." The voice, now recognized as Jacquelyn Scieszka, responded quickly and quietly. This piqued Dona's interest, also now using the ridiculously fast voice, "Can you tell me anything?" Dona asked, trying to keep her voice down, not wanting to wake the triplets. "I'm afraid I can't over the telephone, meet me outside of Mulctuary Money Management at 3 this afternoon, and remember, the world-" "-is quiet here." Dona finished for her, fiddling with the spyglass that had not left her sight or touch ever since the fire. The line went dead and Dona placed the phone back on the receiver as she heard a creaking coming from the upstairs, symbolizing that one of the triplets had awoken. Dona crept up the stairs and slid back into her room before either of the other three children's door opened, not wanting any of them to know she was awake yet.
The day continued seamlessly, except for the slight awkwardness around Quigley, Dona was overall very joyous. The thought of her mother and her being back together made her have hope that things could possibly return to normal, that they could become how they used to be.
It was 2:15 when Dona decided that she had to go meet Jacquelyn. Dona popped her head into the library when the Quagmire's sat about the room, reading. "Hey, guys, I'm gonna head out for awhile, I should be back in a few hours, if I'm not back by 6, send a search party." She finished laughing, choosing not to hear any protests, not having time to continue talking. Dona grabbed a key to the house from the ring beside the door and stepped out into the cool air of the afternoon. She locked the front door and walked over to the bicycle that she had found....... at the dump. It worked fine for travels and it didn't have many problems, so she kept it. She swung her leg over the bike and began peddling in the direction of Mulctuary Money Management.
A/N
Not the best chapter, not much Quigley and Dona, but it was a chapter. Things will get better I promise, I just had to try and get the story going. I'll continue to update every few days for the foreseeable future! Thank you for reading, hope you enjoyed, eat some food :)
