*Olivia's Pov*
I open my eyes to see Claire holding a knife at Matt's throat. She was shakey, her hair and body covered in blood and guts. I sit up with my back against the wall, and notice that I'm laying on a pile of corpses. In fact they where everywhere. I look down the hall to see some growlers at a door and a hole in the school. What the hell happened?
"W..Why, why did you kill him? Why did you try to do what you did to Olivia? What made you into this terrible person? Just why Matt?" Claire asked in a whisper, turning my attention to her and Matt.
Matt takes a deep breath, looks at Claire with his one good eye.
"I love her. Olivia is smart, caring, funny, talented. Nobody deserves her, not even me. I couldn't take the rejection when she said she didn't share the same feelings with me. I..I didn't mean to hurt her honestly. I don't know what came over me. As for Sam, I was pissed that I thought I was gonna die like that. So I pushed him and they devoured him. I'm a coward and I hurt people. This new world made me this way." Matt explained with a tear streaming down his one good eye.
"You want to kill me, you have too and you know it. I'm either gonna kill you all by slowing you down or just kill your husband and take him with me. And I really do prefer killing Johnny since I can't kill Dylan at the moment." He added.
A fire burned in me of rage and anger, and I can tell Claire was really ticked off too. Then in one swift motion Claire places her hand over his mouth and slices his throat open. His blood pours out fast. His left hand instantly goes to his throat holding it, and the other gripping onto Claire's arm tightly.
"Burn in hell asshole." Claire whispered to him. I gasped catching Claire's attention. Her eyes where puffy and red, her face was also tomato red. I see Matt's grip on Claire's arm loosen and it falls to his side. I look back up to Claire's eyes.
"W..We need to go." Was all she said. I nodded.
"H..How are we going to escape?"
She explains to me what happened and her plan seems crazy. I wouldn't believed it would work, but just then I see a door open at the end of the hall, growlers walking inside. Walking out was Johnny and the others drenched in blood and guts. Simon closes the door behind them trapping the growlers inside.
They all look at Matt's body simultaneously. Johnny walked to his body takes his knife out and jabs it through his skull. He gets up and looks at us with determination in his eyes.
"Lets get out of here." He said as he puts his blade away.
Claire and I both dress ourselves in blood and guts like the others. We start making our way down the stairs and walk past a few growlers. Holy shit it was actually working. It fascinated me that we discovered something new about growlers.
We reach the entrance hall of the school, which the doors weren't there anymore thanks to the undead. Johnny motioned us to go into the boys bathroom and we followed. We silently take out the three growlers that were in there. Nicole closes the door behind us and we all take a quick breath. I reach into my backpack feeling wetness in it. I pull out a water bottle that had a sip left.
"Damnit." I whispered. I went to the sink, turned on the cold water and filled it up. The others did same right after me. I put it back in my bag and the muffled sound of the undead could be heard even louder.
Even though we are in danger my mind keeps wondering to Dylan. I'm worried about him and I miss him so damn much. I really hope he's okay, wherever they are taking him.
Johnny clears his throat snapping me out of my deep thought. I look up at him as he stands in the middle of us all.
"Do you guys remember where that house with the treehouse that we passed when we first got here a mile back is located?" He asked the group. We all nod in response. "Good, me and Dylan stored a van there in the garage. Rations to last a couple weeks for a family of four. Could last us longer if we use it smartly. We'll get separated in the horde, but we'll meet there and wait till nightfall. If any of us don't make it there, we'll have to assume you didn't make it and leave."
There was a moment of silence as we all stood there taking in these, hopefully not final moments together. I look to my left and see Claire taking a deep breath while holding her shakey hand. I intertwine my fingers through hers and hold her hand. She looks at me with glossy eyes and shoots me a small smile.
"Remember when the boys decided for halloween instead of trick or treating, we'd go to a high school party even though we were middle schoolers?" I asked her. She chuckles.
"Of course I do how could I forget. We had to sneak in and after hours we finally got passed the guards, just for Mr. Ambrose and the rest of the cops to show up and shut it down."
"David was so pissed, that Johnny wasn't allowed out of the house for weeks after that. Then our parents embarrased us by chaperoning our school dance, did 70s dance moves all through the night, and forced us to join." We laughed together. The laughing died down for a bit until it was gone.
"Promise me whatever happens to us in this new world, we'll still be sisters."
"Forever and always babes." I promised as I pulled her in for a hug. We held each other for a bit then separated. Johnny came up to us with a smile.
"Ready?" He asked. We both nodded. We all gather at the door and with a deep breath, Johnny opens it and leads us out. More growlers where inside and immediately some flooded the bathroom.
The groans of the undead clouding my thoughts as I walk with the dead. They're so loud I couldn't even hear if someone screamed. I make it outside and just kept going forward, not looking back or even trying to find my friends in this massive horde.
After what felt like forever, I made it to the broken walls surrounding the school. Hearing the worst thing that could ever come at the time like this, the sky started to rumble ever so slightly.
'Damnit.' I thought. If there was one thing we didn't need at this moment rain was definatly it. Especially while we are still in this horde.
I finally get out of the horde and see strays of growlers walking towards the horde, out of the street and woods. Not stopping or looking back I walk the mile to the house. I was the only one here it seems.
I head to the treehouse climbing the rope ladder. There's two blankets and one pillow on the middle, board games in the corner, and a turned off lantern on top of it, with a empty duffle bag next to it. I sat down in a empty corner and waited. My eyes get heavy as the sudden sound of water hitting the wood of the tree house is heard, one tap after another. Hoping my friends made it out by now, I closed my eyes until sleep consumes me.
