*Dylan's Pov*
Carlos escorts me to a normal sized elevator. He has his back to me as he presses the second button and we start to go up.
"Don't be upset with Lily, I told her to li-"
"You're trying to escape aren't ya?" Carlos asked cutting me off not even looking at me. I didn't say a word back, he chuckles before opening his mouth again.
"You're not gonna get far on your own you know that?" He's right I don't know shit about this place, they'd capture me all over again.
"Your point is?" I asked him. He turns around with folded arms.
"I'll help you."
"What?! Why would you and how could I even trust you?"
"Look I might seem pretty chill and you most likely hate my guts for even being apart of the school incident. But I do know the difference between the right and wrong. Lily means the world to me, and I'd be damned to have her grow up to become one of their soldiers. That's not the life she deserves nor is the life she'll have out of this place, but I'd rather her grow as a survivor than a solider. I want what's best for her and my gut is telling me this isn't the place for her, and you want the same for her. And my gut is never wrong, except for when it told me to try mustard with my spaghetti."
"Okay. But if you even think of betraying me, you'd wish you were being eaten by growlers." I warned him while holding my hand out.
"Aye aye captain." He takes my hand and shakes it. "One more thing can you call them 'Muertos' for me I'd really like to hear you speak our tongue, mi compañero." I gave him a death glare. He put his hands up in surrender while turning back around.
The elevator door opens back up revealing a office. A black tiled floor, brown bookshelves on the sides, a brown wooden desk with pens, papers, binders, and a glock neatly organized on top of it. In front of the desk are two short black cushioned chairs. Behind the desk is a big black leather chair with it's back facing us. Behind it all is a grey smooth wall, with a golden Phoenix statue on it.
"I've heard you made a friend hijo." The chair turns around revealing my mother. Her light red hair is put into a bun, wearing her black leather trench coat with a gold Phoenix logo on the collar. She's wearing her reading glasses, her wedding ring, and three other rings on the middle, index, ring fingers on her other hand.
"Demonio." I said glaring at her. She chuckles and simply motions her hand for us to sit. Not breaking my stare I take a seat on the right chair as Carlos sat to my left.
"Your father has informed me that you guys aren't having much progress." She said while leaning back in her chair and holding her hands on her lap.
"We need more time. I looked at the studies of what you guys had before I got here. I honestly don't even know if we'd have it done by your deadline. Nothings came close, we just might be screwed." I told her frustrated. She sighed while getting up and heading to a bookshelf, looking over the books on it.
"Ebola, the black death, the spanish flu. Every horrid plague has one thing in common. Us human always out live them. This plague like the others before, will not be the extinctsion of humankind. I have faith in my family that they can get to the bottom of this."
"We shouldn't be having this conversation if it wasn't for you guys." I said folding my arms.
"I know hijo."
"Stop calling me that!" I cried out. She walked in front of the desk, folded her arms, and leaned on it.
"Make sure you get some rest tonight. I'm going to unleash protocol Titan tomorrow. Cure or not, this world will be reborn."
"You can't just-"
"You may leave now. And make sure you're little friend is safe and sound." She interrupted me. I clenched my fist in anger. I stood up with Carlos and headed to the elevator. Carlos presses the button to open it and it opens. He walks in first and before I stepped in, I held the elevator open with one hand.
"I don't know what's been going on with my mind lately, but I do know this. I don't care what happens to me, I will not hesitate to end you if you think of touching a hair on Lily's head." I walked in and the elevator door closes. I let out a breath I didn't even know I was holding.
"Yeah she's definitely going loco. I haven't seen her like this ever before." Carlos admitted from behind me.
"Trust me, I'm still getting used to it myself." I was used to having busy parents that cared more for work than their own child. But when they did care for me, they cared with every fiber in their body.
"We'll be out of here soon. I know every entrance and exit out of this hell. When you're ready we're out of here."
"Good, tonight we're out of here."
"You sure? If we get caught you're gonna be alright but not so much for me or Lily." He's right, Carlos I could careless for but I do need him. Lily, I couldn't live with myself if something happened to her.
"You have a point. But we're gonna have to do it tonight. My mother won't unleash protocol Titan with me out there. I'm a important asset she needs."
"No mistakes then, which mean try not to freakout on us Compréndeme?"
"Sí, haré todo lo que pueda."
"Yassss papi. You speak our tongue so well." I smack my forehead at his ridiculousness.
"Just pack Lily and your stuff and meet me at my tent at eight."
"Will do boss."
The doors open and I make a beeline straight to my tent, separating from Carlos. I've only known Lily for a couple days now and I already adore her. I don't know what I'd do if something happened to her.
After passing a few parents playing with their kids, I finally get to my tent. I bag as much clothes as I can fit in my bag. Made sure my water bottle is filled and strapped to my bag. I grab a ponytail off the desk, and put my hair up into a short man bun. After doing that I turn around to head for the door. I stopped as the door opens and a guard in full gear except his helmet comes in.
Blonde fade, blonde goatee, no gun. I know this asshole. This is the piece of shit who killed Tyler. I look at my watch seeing that it's only seven, I chuckle.
"What's so funny?" He asked balling his fist.
"I still got enough time to keep a promise I made to myself, dickhead."
