*Dylan's Pov*
*Harriet high school rooftop*
On our way to the rooftop, my moth- Maria informed me that Phoenix is bigger than anything we could ever imagine. That they're more than just an army. I was dumbfounded at the sight of the black helicopter up close. Before the world turned to shit, my dream was to become a famous actor and take helicopter rides to everywhere I wanted. Didn't expect to have my first helicopter ride this early in my life, especially in these circumstances.
The pilot is taking a smoke where Johnny and Claire read their vows. The pilot is wearing these black cargo pants, matching the all black flight jacket, and boots.
"Aye let's get a move on." The solider who murdered Tyler shouted out to the pilot. He got his attention, as we stop right next to the helicopter. A jolt of anger surged through my body as he uttered words to the pilot.
This asshole really thinks he can get away with this, well he's gonna be in for a big surprise. None of them are gonna get away with what they've done today...and that's a promise.
"Roger that." The pilot responded, while tossing the cigarette off the building. As he gets closer, the pilot makes full eye contact with me. He smiles from ear to ear.
"Well, I didn't know you had such a handsome son Maria." The pilot said with a impressed tone in his voice while winking at me. He has to be in his early 20s maybe even younger. How does someone this young know how to fly a helicopter already? Who is this guy? "Is he single?"
"Carlos!! Stop flirting with my son and lets get out of here." Maria told the pilot.
"I'll try me lady, Vámonos." Carlos replied, while grabbing his black helmet from the helicopter pilot seat. My eyes wonder over to Maria as she reaches for her walkie, holding it to her face to tell her men "times up." I ball my fist at her command.
Before I could say anything, I feel something wet hit the top of my head. I look up to see the rain starting go from light droplets to pouring. I sigh while looking back ahead of me and to my surprise nothing was there. I look all around me and I was alone again. No helicopter, no soliders, no Maria, just me and the rain.
What the fuck is happening? Why does it keep happening? As I start to think things can't get any worse, a haunting chilling voice whispers my name in my ear with a familiar accent. I quickly turn around and see him....Jack.
"What's wrong mate? You look like you've seen a ghost." He chuckled with a sadistic smirk on his face. He opens his arms out. "C'mon give uncle Jack Jack a hug, I know you've missed m-"
"SHUT UP!! You're dead you fucking asshole!!" I bursted out as I grip my hair in anger. While still holding my head, I start pacing back and forth crying out, "You're not real, you're not real, you're not real."
"I'm not? Damnit, I thought I was a real boy." A sarcastic tone came out of his mouth.
"WHAT DO YOU FUCKING WANT FROM ME!!" I can't take this shit anymore. What the hell am I suppose to do?
"Well I'll tell you what you have to do mate." I stop pacing and give a puzzled look at Jackass. How the hell did he know what I was thinking? And then it dawned on me, this shit isn't real it's all in my head.
"Stop saying I'm not real, your gonna hurt my feelings buddy ol pal." I close my eyes and take in a deep breath. As I exhale, the sound of rain hitting the roof are gone. I open my eyes and was shocked at the sight of raindrops stopped in midair. Something taps my shoulder, I quickly turn around. I drop to the floor, and crawl backing away from the site of Sandra, Jack, Gunther, Bill, and David all as growlers pointing at me.
"You killed us all!" They all said unison. I..I didn't...why is this shit happening to me. I close my eyes and take another deep breath. A faint familiar voice calls out to me, pleading me to snap out of it. I blink a few times to adjust my eyes and I see my mothe- Maria standing over me with a unamused expression on her face.
As I'm trying my best to catch my breath, my eyes scan around the roof. I see the black helicopter next to us, soldiers all around us with some at the door guarding it. I look up and there was no rain falling down. Nobody was wet, except for me which I can thank my sweat and tears for that.
"Sweetie, stop being a embarrasment and get in the helicopter...NOW!!" Maria uttered irritably. My heart ached at the fact that Maria...my own mother didn't care that something was wrong with me. And knowing that hurt a hell of a lot more than any wound imaginable.
I struggled to get up off the ground and stand. As I do I clench my hands into a fist while trying my hardest to hold back my tears. The look in Maria's eyes was enough that it would even scare a growler back to life just to die again. I didn't bother or had the strength to argue this time, so I just did as I was told and got into the chopper.
I grabbed the handle attached to the side of the bird for support, and lifted myself into it. Immediately I was squished between Maria and the solider who killed Tyler and another solider on his left.
"AAAAAAATTENTION new flyers, this is your dashingly handsome pilot speaking, you are flying AirCarlos. And we are lifting off in 3...2...1." The chopper started rumbling and in seconds we where hovering over the school.
I look out the door that has not been closed all the way as we are in the air. I can see growlers still entering the building and a few coming out of the woods near the school. My eyes spot the lookout tower that we build when we first got here. Elliot, the sniper we had up there was now laying in a pool of blood with what seems like a bullet to his head. I glance at the soldier next to me and spot a grenade attached to his side.
Quickly thinking I fake sneeze, smuggling the grenade off of his side. I pull the pin drawing everyone's attention. Maria looks at me with a very serious panicked look in her eyes.
"S..Son give me that now." She said slowly and as calm as she could. Holding the clip so it doesn't blow, I look her deep in her cold dark eyes.
"Either I will throw it at that lookout tower, or just blow us up and have this helicopter crash. Either way I'm saving my friends. Your choice mother."
A faint flash of a emotion I haven't seen from her eyes since before the dead roamed the earth. It was the same look in her eyes she had when she told me that grandma died.
She closed her eyes, crossed her arms, and turned her head opposite of the door. Carlos began to guide the bird above the lookout tower. I let go of the grenade, dropping it onto the lookout tower. God I hope this works.
