38: Comatose

*Claire's Pov*

I'm sitting on the bed next to my husband while he talks to the gang. He just woke up today and I couldn't be more happy. I haven't left his side since he got hurt. To say I was scared was a understatement. He seized and I damn near had a heart attack. Never in my life I'd think a day like that would come. Life has a funny way of showing that it's not mean't to be forever.

"I should get back on lookout. Glad to see you're awake." Troy said interrupting my thoughts.

"Wow I really must be dead, that was the nicest thing you've said to me Troy." Johnny teased.

"Don't milk it Ambrose." Troy sighed turning and leaving the room.

"He secretly looks up to you, even though he doesn't want to admit he does." Jenny admits and Johnny just smiled. I remember what Jenny told me, about why Troy's the way he is. He's been a big help when Johnny was unconscious. He'd check up on us regularly, made sure I was fed even when I didn't want to eat, he'd even volunteer to help search for medicine.

"He's a good kid, I'm glad he's being a little nicer to people." Johnny smiled. 

"Dude I almost forgot, I hope you don't mind but I grabbed those comics from your house. We can read them while you recover." Simon said eagerly.

"Oh thanks dude, that's a must need for our survival...ow." Johnny saluted then stopped holding his ab in pain. 

"Try not to move so fast." I said worried rubbing his shoulder.

"We can start on some physical therapy tomorrow. Get you walking in no time." Ruby informed him.

"T..Thanks that'll be great." Johnny smiled. Yet again he still finds a way to smile, even with being so close to death.

"Excuse me everyone." I hear Lily tell everyone. They split making a path for her. Her face lit up as she seen Johnny awake. I haven't had the chance to really meet her or talk to her, but she seems like a good kid.

"Depp you're awake!" She jumped up and down in excitement. I laugh as I know Johnny really doesn't like that nickname.

"Not you calling me that too." Johnny huffed.

"Big bro told me you love that name." She pouted. Johnny stares at her puppy face.

"Damn you're to adorable. You can call me Depp." He said cracking under her cuteness making us all laugh.

"What did you guys find out there?" Mark asked Lily.

"Wait you guys let her go out there? I know we aren't protected right now but why send a little girl out there?" Johnny asked.

"She wasn't leaving my side." Carlos voice entered the room. "She needs to learn how to survive out there. What if something happens to us, she's smart but she also needs to learn how to protect herself from los muertos."

"Don't be mad please. It was my idea, I need to protect my new family." Lily said folding her arms.

"I..I'm not mad. I'm actually proud of you. It's scary out there and you're right you do need to learn how to protect yourself. Just got to be smart and listen when you are out there and here." 

"You don't have to worry about her with being smart or listening. If it wasn't for her we'd never find that yacht." Carlos grinned. A yacht? I forgot those even existed. I've been on a boat before but never a yacht.

"Where did you guys find it?" Mark asked.

"On the detroit river." Carlos answers. "And let me tell you guys, Detroit is a big city which means it's infested with muertos."

"Why were y'all that far out?" Jenny asked.

"We're trying to expand our search radius. So we found a water tower, Lily and I climbed it and she spotted the boat." Carlos explained.

"Can't we just fly there?" Nicole asked.

"Not enough fuel to be making trips back and forth like that."

"We'll talk about this later, I'd like to talk to my wife alone for a second." Johnny requested.

"Of course, we're glad to see your up dude." Simon said while following everyone else out of the room. Simon being the last one he closes the door behind him.

Johnny looks at me with so much happieness and pain in his eyes. It's a look that told me he seen something that he needed to see.

"What is it?" I asked concerned rubbing his back. He takes a deep breath.

"When I was bleeding out and unconscious, I..I seen my mom. We talked and I wish we never stopped. There was so much I wanted to say to her, so much I wanted to learn from her, but we didn't have much time."

"W..What did she tell you?" A tear comes down his face and I wiped it with my thumb.

"I..I asked her what really happened to her. When M..Maria stabbed me she told me that it was funny, my face looked exactly like my mother when she k..killed her."

"What?!" I gasped as my heart breaks from his words. I never had the chance to meet his mom. We didn't know each other before she died. To hear her death wasn't an accident, is even more heartbreaking.

"She found out what phoenix was, somehow they knew she was researching them. Maria hit her on a red light, dragged her body away from the car, and stabbed her. She made it look like an accident. I guess the forensics team were also Phoenix, cause they would definitely know the cause of death wasn't from impact."

I'm literally at a lost for words, I can't believe what I'm hearing. I couldn't hold back the tear coming down my face. Johnny holds my hand as he lays down. I place my head on his chest making sure I don't touch his injured abs.

"She told me that her and dad are proud of the man I've become. She also mentioned she wished she could've met you and she likes you."

"R..Really?"

"Yes really. I knew she would, you guys woulda been like best friends." I smiled looking at the rings on our hands and I can tell Johnny's doing the same.

"That would've been awesome. David was like a second father to me. I wish I had the opportunity to have your mom be a second mother to me."

"Before my dad died he told me he loved you and Olivia like yall were his own daughters, same with Dylan."

"H..He loved him like a daughter too?" I chuckled.

"You know with his hair getting longer I'd love to say yes, but you know what I mean silly."

"Hey your hair is getting pretty long yourself missy." I teased. He pinches my side and I squeal. "You're lucky I love you and you're hurt cause I would so try to get you back." I added yawning.

"I'll win anyways, but you should get some sleep love. I'm guessing you haven't been able to sleep for long since we got back."

"You're right I couldn't, well for long at least. It was hard knowing you probably weren't gonna wake up again. You're my world Johnny." I feel his thumb circling the middle of my back soothingly, instantly relaxing me to the point that I can't keep my eyes open.

"You're my universe Claire. Now get some sleep and I promise not to wake you in case of emergency."

"O..Okay. I love you." I yawned.

"I love you more my beautiful wife." I feel his lips press on my head and I smile drifting off to sleep.
