*Claire's Pov*
We talked to Johnny's dad about what's going on. He was at work when this woman came in with her intestines hanging out. She pounced on the chief of police and took a chunk out of his face. Cops were shooting her but she wasn't fazed. She kept coming until David shot her in the head and she didn't get up anymore. After that happened he tried coming to the school and seen all the carnage inside and outside. So he came back home to gather weapons to save us.
Johnny told us about Mr. Yang, and how he just turned after being bit by some guy early in the day, thats when we figured if you get bit by one of them you turn to one of them. We all decided to call them "Growlers" because well, that's the only noise they make. It was definitly Dylan's idea to name them that.
"So we have to destroy the brain to kill them?" Olivia asked shivering.
"Exactly, we are gonna have to barricade the windows and the door, will be safe here." David exclaims.
"Dad, how about you stay here start boarding up the windows, Olivia you tend to Dylan's ankle, while Claire and I will go to Claire's house grab her parents and stock up on food, and do the same for Dylan's and Olivia's?" Johnny offered. I really miss my mom and dad, God I hope they're okay.
"That's a hell no son, I just got you back I'm not letting you go out there." David retorted pretty stern. "I'll go, I can do it I'm the only one trained to use a gun. Plus I'm the only adult here." He does have a point, he does have years of experience in wielding a gun. He's been on the force for over 20 years now.
"You know as well as me dad that going out there alone is suicide I'm coming with you." Johnny demands.
"Fine, but you listen to me when we are out there. Here, only use this if you really need to and remember its not a damn toy." David said while handing him a handgun. Johnny does have some training in using a gun. David used to take him to the gun range a few times growing up.
As they start preparing to make the trip I pull Johnny to the side.
"Babe, please be careful and hurry back and-" he cuts me off by pulling me close to him crashing his lips onto mine. It felt like a "I love you, I'm gonna be okay, and don't worry" kiss. He pulls away and I nod. I give him a hug. "I love you." I cried.
"I love you more baby." He says holding back tears.
"Okay, lets get this show on the road." David says while checking his ammo. I give Johnny one last kiss on the lips before he heads out with his dad.
"Alright, Claire grab the boards and nails from the garage and start boarding windows. I'll start treating Dylan's ankle." Olivia said with determination. She's scared but dosen't want to show it. I nod and head for the garage.
*David's Pov*
*David and Johnny in the car*
It's horrible out here, cars flipped on fire, people eating people, it's madness. I look over and see Johnny bouncing his leg and biting his nails.
"You know you all are strong and brave." I told him.
"U-um Thanks dad." He replies nervous. I sigh.
"Listen, I know you are scared; hell so am I, but you have to remember they are not people anymore they are dead people walking."
"Yeah I know its just this all happened so fast. Up here."
*They pull into Claire's driveway*
We get out of the car and I check the windows. It doesn't seem like anyone is home. "How are we going to get in? I asked.
"They don't have a key under a mat but they do have a tree in the back." Johnny says with a little grin.
"I don't even want to know." I sigh and Johnny chuckles.
"I'll head up there and unlock the front door, hang tight." Johnny runs to the back to climb the tree. I waited by the front door while Johnny did his job. Everything's silent until I hear a sudden Bang!!! Bang!!!
I try to break the door down when I hear the door unlock. It opens revealing Johnny wide eyed with a tear going down his face and blood all over him. "Oh God what the hell happened? Are you okay?"
"T-t-they're d-d-dead." He manages to say in shock. I try to go in for a hug but he turned around and went to the kitchen. He started packing all the food he could carry in the bag. I walk in to help him, he was silent the whole time. He just had to put down his girlfriend's parents. What the hell is this world? We pack the car up with the bags, enter it, then we made our way to Dylan's house and then Olivia's.
*Olivia's Pov*
"Its almost night what the hell is taking them so long." Claire said worried and pacing.
"I'm sure they're on the way back home by now. Sit and drink some water before you get dehydrated." I told her while comforting Dylan who fell asleep. She nods and grabs a water and sits.
An hour goes by and the door opens revealing Johnny with blood stains all over his shirt. He looks exhausted, like he could barley even stand. He walks in looks at Claire then shakes his head no. She breaks down into his arms. David comes in next while carrying my mom. She's unconscious. He sets her on the couch then he shuts the door.
"W-what happened to her? W..W..Where's my dad?" I pleaded.
"There was to many of them when we got to your house. We barely made it out ourselves. Y..Your dad was behind us and they grabbed him. I'm sorry there was nothing we could of done. Your mother fainted in the car when she witnessed it." David cried. I go to hold my mom's hand and burst into tears.
"W-what about my parents?" Dylan asked. He must've woken up from their return.
"We don't know they weren't home, we searched everywhere for them." David exclaims. Dylan nods while holding back tears. Johnny helps Claire off the floor and walks her to a chair. This has to be the worst day of our lives.
