Chapter 9

District 9: Reaping

Charming's POV

"You'll be fine. Just remember, Riana."

I rolled my eyes.

"Yes, dad."

My father doesn't want me to get reaped. But what parent does? But not for the reason of most parents. He said I have to win so I can keep the family tree going. He already has an arranged marriage set up. The wedding is in a month.

The peacekeepers prick my finger and I step into the boys group.

From the girls section, I see Riana making kissing faces at me. I roll my eyes. I would rather find my true love in the games, than have to marry some fake person back home.

"Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. May the odds be ever in your favor." Pabby announced. Pabby was this year's mentor.

He pulled out the female tribute.

"Pochahontas Nairobi."

A tall tanned girl with sleek black hair was slowly making her way onstage.

Pabby stuck his hand into the boys bowl.

"Charming Princeton."

Peacekeepers dragged me onstage.

I changed my mind, I'll stick with fake love.

Pochahontas's POV

My name echoed over the town square. I couldn't believe it.

I slowly walked onstage.

"Charming Princeton."

A tall brown haired boy was dragged onto the stage.

"District 9." Only a few people clapped, the people who were overjoyed they didn't get reaped.

We were pulled into a room and waited for our family to say goodbye.

I wasn't sure how good I was going to do in this Games. I was a good hunter, but never for humans. They are a lot smarter than deer and birds.

My father rushed in.

"Pocha." He gave me a big hug.

I wrapped my arms around him. A single tear dripped down my cheek. I was shaking uncontrollably.

"It's ok." He said before peacekeepers dragged him out.

Charming's dad came in along with a girl.

"Charming I'll miss you!" She squealed.

Thier lips touched and Charming looked disgusted.

They left and Charming and I sat together in the small room.

I wouldn't cry. Not in front of my competitor. I had to look strong.
