Hercules's POV
Meg is perfect. Beautiful, strong, intelligent, kind of like me. So why doesn't she like me? Every time I approach her even to offer her some water, she scatters. I finally get her while she is distilling her water.
"Herc, go away." She grumbled.
"Why don't you like me? Did I do something? Did I offend you in some way? I saved you, I-" I was cut off when she kissed me. Now I was really confused.
She pulled away, letting me look into her beautiful purple eyes for a moment before she turns back to her water. "The problem is that I like you. I can't like anyone here, you're going to die anyway and I can't become attached so it would be nice if you could just go away."
I'm a bit taken aback, but at least I know. I get up and walk back with the rest of the careers. Merida is playing with the feathers on her arrows, Kocuom is sharpening his spear, Shang is trying to start a fire, but failing miserably so I try to help him.
"You're trying too hard." I say as I take the stick and start the fire with no problem, orange flames licking over the kindling.
"Thanks," he grumbles. "I guess I probably should've spent more time at the fire making station."
Mulan comes back from perimeter sweep and looks over at Shang and I, then chuckles.
"What are you laughing at, One?" Shang grunts.
"I'm surprised you made it this far, no kills, can't make a fire, you're dead weight."
Shang shot up and I quickly held his arms to keep him back. "Guys, this is not the time to fight. We are a group, the Games just started, you don't expect us to have a kill this early."
"You shouldn't be the one talking," Mulan started again, throwing down her sword. "I haven't seen you kill anyone yet. All you've done is help Scout here start fires and invite people into our group." Why was she acting like this? Was she stressed? I felt like punching her in the face, but knew it wouldn't help.
"Meg proved to be a helpful asset, she killed that girl from Twelve."
Mulan scoffed. "Anyone could've killed her."
"But she did." I let go of Shang and he went to stand next to Merida, whose quiver was slung over her shoulder, bow in hand. Kocuom was standing like a statue against a tree.
Mulan crossed her arms. "You're right, she had more guts to kill her than you did. Maybe you only invited her in to do your dirty work."
I clenched my fists at my side, Meg peeked around a tree. "Thats not true. I invited her in because our group needs strong Tributes."
Mulan scoffed. "Well obviously you don't make the cut as a strong Tribute, so you can leave."
I swallowed hard then took a step forward and forced all of my courage into two words. "Make me."

Merida's POV
I never minded the rivalry between the Careers, it reminded me of my rivalry with my siblings.
