Chapter 6

District 6: Reaping

Meg's POV

"And now, me, Gerald Genie, will reap the 22nd annual, District 6 tributes!" Gerry said excitedly as he reached his hand in the round bowl that held our names.

I was so nervous. I was in for a lot of tesserae. I had one of the best chances out of anyone to get drawn.

I couldn't go into the games. I was still heart broken after my last boyfriend. He had gone into the games last year. Before he left, he asked me to sponsor him. I used all of my money to sponsor him. And he was killed in the first week. Later, I found out he was dating my enemy and was only using me for the small amount of money I had. What a loser.

My palms were sweating. I wiped them on my purple dress. I took in a few shaky breaths.

Gerry had his hand in the bowl for what seemed like forever.

Finally, he pulled out the first name.

"Megara Dival."

I froze. It's not like I wasn't expecting it, just that now I was ensured into the games.

I slowly walked up to the stage. Gerry had already asked for volunteers and of course nobody said anything.

I was in the Games.

Aladdin's POV

I had only seen Megara a few times at school. She was a grade ahead of me so we weren't really friends. She looked scared, but not shocked. She expected she was going to be picked. I could tell.

"Now for the gentle men." Genie reached into the other bowl.

Genie and I were friends. I broke into his house once and he forgave me. We have been friends ever since. I lived with him on the weekend.

I try to stay away from home as much as I can. My mom is an alcoholic. Sometimes she lashes out on me. It's like a mini Hunger Games in our house sometimes.

He grabbed a small piece of paper and unfolded it. His smile disappeared.

"Aladdin Ababwa." He gulped.

I stepped back. This wasn't happening. I was imagining it.

Peacekeepers pushed me forward onto the stage.

I stumbled and then straighented up. I couldn't show I was weak.

I looked over at Megara and shrugged. She rolled her eyes and crossed her arms.

This was going to be a long Game.
