District 2:ReapingBy: RavenclawMaven1198
Merida's POV
Today is the reaping.
I am pacing in my room.
Strangely, I want to get reaped.I want to show my parents that I can do anything. Not just be the mayor's daughter.
They haven't entered me for any tesserae. They have people set up to volunteer for me. They want me to take over and become mayor someday. I just want to be free and make my own life.
"Merida! Come on dear! You don't want to be late!" My mother called me.
I walked slowly down our marble stairs into the foyer.
"You look beautiful."
I was wearing a tight blue silk gown with gold beads inlaid all over the dress. It was rather uncomfortable if you asked me.
"Can we just go?" I groaned.
She shrugged and guided me out the door.
Nobody had gathered in the square yet. Only a few families had come for early registration.
I trudged down the marble steps onto the obsideon side walk.
I was registered then I went back up to the marble steps to sit down.
An orange strand of hair dropped in the way of my face. I blew it away and it fell back down. I kept myself occupied trying to blow the orange strand out of the way of my face.
In fact, I was so occupied by this action that I didn't realize that the entire town had gathered in the square and the anthem had started to play.

Shang's POV
They pricked my finger and pressed it onto a white sheet of paper with my name and information on it.
"Next." The peacekeeper said.
I stepped out of the way and made my way to the boy's section.
I saw the mayor's daughter sitting on the town hall steps, carelessly blowing a piece of hair out of her face.
Reaping day. The day everyone dreads. I don't feel any emotion towards this grim day. If I did get picked, I could probaly fight my way up to at least the top four. But I wouldn't be mad if I didn't get reaped. My dream is to become a peacekeeper and take after my father. I hope no Hunger Games gets in my way.
The anthem started playing and I straightened up to face the screen.
The mayor's daughter was still sitting on the steps blowing her hair. She finally snapped out of it and joined the group of girls.
I shook my head. She has the attention span of a toddler.
The video ended and I focused on Fergus, this years mentor.
Fergus was the husband to the mayor and past winner of the Hunger Games. I wasn't alive when he won but I heard it was a very bloody battle. He had lost his leg in the dabocle.
"I will now reap District 2's tributes for the 22nd annual Hunger Games." He said shakily.
There are rumors that he still has nightmares about his past games.
He stuck his hand in the large glass bowl and picked the male tribute. Here in 2, the boys go first.
He straightened up and said the name.
"Shang Li."
Murmurs went throughout the crowd.
I froze. This can't be happening, I wasn't supposed to get drawn. I had made it six years without getting picked, how could this happen?
I slowly made my way up the marble steps of City Hall.
Fergus looked at me with teary eyes.
I didn't know he got that emotional.
"A-any volunteers?"
Nobody in the crowd said a word.
He stuck his chubby fingers in the other bowl and pulled out another piece of paper.
He unfolded it with shaky hands and took a sharp breath. A single tear dripped down his cheek.
"Merida O'Hara." He said shakily.
Merida's face lit up.
"Please! Any volunteers?!" Fergus pleaded.
Merida bounded up the steps.
"I-I volunteer!" Fergus said shakily.
"I volunteer!" He collapsed into sobs on the ground.
Peacekeepers lifted him up and brought him back into City Hall.
Merida and I were guided into a room where we said goodbye to our families.
My father rushed in.
"Oh Shang."
He came over and embraced me.
I hugged him back. I wouldn't let the tears come.
"Dad, I don't want to go." I whispered. I changed my mind.
"I know. But you have to. Just come out alive. Do what you have to do. I forgive yo-" Peacekeepers dragged him out of the room.
"Dad!" I called after him.
It was too late. The doors closed.
I sat in a chair and contemplated what just happened. Merida's mother must've already came.
"This is going to be fun." She said.
"Fun? Killing other innocent boys and girls are fun? What kind of a sicko are you?" I protested.
"Gosh, you sound more like a coal miner than a mason worker." She scoffed.
I didn't care who I was of where I was from, I had to win.
